Ayatollah Raadhi: Religious edict has brought the Islamic seminary into the front lines in Iraq

Ayatollah Aal Raadhi, one of the respected teachers from the Islamic seminaries in Iraq, during his class on jurisprudence and its principles, spoke about the importance of the religious edict of Ayatollah Sistani in special reference to the relationship between the Islamic seminary and the government.

The respected teacher stated: “The religious edict has brought the Islamic seminary into the front lines and it has clearly and comprehensively shown the government the role of the Islamic seminary.”

He continued: “The holy city of Najaf and especially the Islamic seminary completely acknowledges that this religious edict was passed without any external interference. Ayatollah Sistani personally researched the current situation and reached a definitive conclusion.”

Explaining the role of the religious edict in foiling the enemies plot, the Ayatollah stated: “The enemy are seeking the overthrow of the Shia in Iraq and they though that Ayatollah Sistani would stay silent in the face of such a threat, however, this grand authority believed that silence in such a situation would mean the annihilation of the Shia, and in reality, of Islam in Iraq.”

“Ayatollah Sistani has complete faith in the supporting role of the Islamic Republic of Iran towards the Muslims of Iraq.”

Regarding the possibility of sectarian strife or civil war, his eminence stated: “In a sitting with the presence of Ayatollah Sistani we studied the situation of the state of Iraq and the terrorist group ISIS. I personally expressed concern about the possibility of a civil war igniting or the reaction from the Ahl al-Sunnah in this situation to which his eminence responded by saying ‘Do not be afraid and rely upon God’.”

Emphasising the role of Islamic unity during such a sensitive time, Ayatollah Raadhi concluded: “After the pronunciation of the religious edict for jihad, many of the tribal leaders and the scholars of Iraq, both Shia and Sunni, as well as many Islamic scholars outside of the country contacted Ayatollah Sistani and were grateful towards him for issuing this religious edict.”
