Ayatollah Sistani Expresses Condolences to Leader on General Soleimani’s Martyrdom

Iraq’s top Shia cleric grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani in a message offered condolences to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei over the martyrdom of IRGC Quds Force Commander General Qassem Soleimani.

“(I received) with great sorrow and grief the news of the martyrdom of the great general Hajj Qassem Soleimani,” Ayatollah Sistani wrote in the message on Sunday.

The exceptional role of that martyr in the years of battle against Daesh in Iraq and the many troubles he went through will not be forgotten, he added.

Ayatollah Sistani went on to extend condolences to the Leader, family of Martyr Soleimani, and the Iranian nation, especially the people of Kerman, Martyr Soleimani’s hometown.

General Soleimani, deputy head of Iraq’s Hashd al-Shaabi Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of Friday.
