Hundreds hold funeral procession for Palestinian amputee killed by Israeli forces

Palestinians have held a funeral for an amputee protester who was killed by Israeli forces during anti-US rallies in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Hundreds of mourners gathered on Saturday in Gaza City to bid farewell to Ibrahim Abu Thuraya, who was killed during the Day of Rage rallies on Friday.

Ismail Haniyah, the leader of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, also attended the funeral procession.

He said during a speech that Jerusalem al-Quds would remain a Palestinian and Islamic city and nobody could change its status quo.

Let it be known that we will not give up Jerusalem, I do not mean East Jerusalem, but a unified Jerusalem, neither East nor West of Jerusalem,” said Haniyah.

PressTV-Watch: Israeli forces killed this wheelchair-bound Palestinian man

On Friday, Israeli forces killed Ibrahim Abu Thuraya. He had lost both his legs during an Israeli aggression back in 2008.

The wheelchair-bound Thuraya with no legs succumbed to his injuries suffered during clashes with Israeli troops. He had lost his legs during the 2008 Israeli aggression that killed hundreds of Palestinians in the coastal sliver.

Separately, a funeral was held for another Palestinian, Bassel Ibrahim, who was killed in clashes in Anata, a West Bank town on the northeast outskirts of Jerusalem al-Quds.

Shortly after the funeral, clashes broke out between Palestinian protesters and Israeli troops.

On Friday, four Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire and dozens more wounded in clashes across the West Bank and near Gaza’s border.

Additionally, Israeli forces arrested a 12-year-old boy in Zayta village in the West Bank city of Tulkarem amid clashes with Palestinian protesters.

Israeli forces attack Palestinian protesters, journalists

Meanwhile, Israeli forces attacked Palestinian journalists and demonstrators amid angry protests and clashes in the occupied Palestinian territories over a controversial decision by US President Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem al-Quds as the “capital” of the Tel Aviv regime.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said Saturday that Israeli troops attacked Palestinian women and girls as well as journalists who were staging a sit-in to show their anger over Trump’s announcement at Bab Al-Amud Gate (also known as the Damascus Gate) in the occupied Old City of Jerusalem al-Quds.

Several Palestinian girls were wounded, one of them with a serious injury to the head, local sources said. Israeli forces also arrested a girl, they said.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said Israeli forces fired bullets directly at the Palestinian protesters and used unknown gas bombs, “which raised the number of martyrs and injured among the civilians,” according to Lebanon’s al-Manar TV.

Trump announced his decision to relocate the US embassy in the occupied lands from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem al-Quds on December 6.

The dramatic shift in Washington’s Jerusalem al-Quds policy triggered demonstrations in the occupied Palestinian territories, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq, Morocco and other Muslim countries.

Israel lays claim to the entire city as its “capital,” while Palestinians want its eastern part as the capital of their future state.
