Islamic Unity Week Quran Competition Planned in India

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Iranian Cultural Center in India plans to organize the 21th edition of a Quran competition on the occasion of Islamic Unity Week.

According to the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, this edition of the Quranic event will be held with 50 participants only from Delhi and the nearby regions due to the coronavirus restrictions.

The participants will compete on Quran memorization and recitation and winners will be awarded in a ceremony to be held on November 3 at the Islamic Center of Delhi.

The Cultural Center also plans to hold a calligraphy festival titled “Mohammad Rasulollah (PBUH)” during the Unity Week.

The closing ceremony of the online festival will be held on the birthday anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) with the participation of Muslim and cultural figures.

A webinar of Persian and Urdu poetry lauding the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and a ceremony marking the auspicious occasion are the other programs of the center to be held during the week.

The 17th day of Rabi al-Awwal, which falls on November 3 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month as the birthday of the last prophet.

The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.

Late Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion as the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
