Saudi Threatens to Freeze Lebanon’s Membership in Arab League: Report

Saudi Arabia is holding discussions with some Arab states to freeze Lebanon’s membership in the Arab League, a report said on Thursday.

Al-Akhbar Lebanese daily reported that the discussions are held on the sidelines of preparations made ahead of an Arab League meeting on Sunday.

The paper quoted Arab diplomatic sources as saying that Saudi will announce during Sunday meeting it has evidences that prove Hezbollah’s role in providing Yemen forces with missiles that are launched at the Gulf Kingdom.

“Based on these evidences, Saudi will ask Lebanese government for an official condemnation of Hezbollah, or else freezing its membership in the Arab body,” Al-Akhbar quoted the diplomatic source as saying.

The source noted that this resolution will be supported by UAE, Bahrain and the resigned government in Yemen which Riyadh has been launching aggression on the Arab impoverished country in a bid to restore power to.

In this context, the daily cited a well informed source at the Iraqi foreign ministry as saying that Riyadh is pressing Arab ministers to condemn Iran and Hezbollah for an alleged role in the ballistic missile which was fired on Riyadh airport on November 4.

The source in the Iraqi ministry confirmed that Baghdad won’t vote on such resolution, noting that the Iraqi delegation will call for an immediate return of Premier Saad Hariri, who is believed to be held by Saudi authorities, to Lebanon.
