We therefore consider him detained. This is a violation of the Vienna agreements and human rights law,\u201d Aoun said at a meeting with Lebanese journalists and media executives.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Aoun underlined the need for Hariri\u2019s immediate return to Lebanon, saying, \u201cWe cannot wait a long time for Hariri\u2019s return, we cannot stop the state\u2019s work.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Later on Wednesday, Hariri repeated his previous statements that he would return home. &#8220;I want to repeat and affirm that I am perfectly fine and I will return, God willing, to dear Lebanon as I promised you, you&#8217;ll see,&#8221; he wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Hariri announced his surprise resignation in Riyadh on November 4, shortly after traveling to Saudi Arabia. The televised announcement saw him reading out from a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Lebanese government officials and senior sources close to Hariri believe that Riyadh forced him to step down and placed him under effective house arrest since he touched down in Saudi Arabia on November 3, a day before he announced his shock resignation.<\/p>\n<p>Lebanon\u2019s Foreign Ministry has pledged to keep up pressure on Saudi Arabia not to impede Hariri\u2019s return, the al-Akhbar paper reported, citing sources within the ministry.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/217.218.67.233\/\/photo\/20171115\/d742f0f3-81f2-4f8e-b6e8-6066d6ccd529.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"313\" \/><figcaption>A poster of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri on a billboard in Beirut on November 14, 2017 reads in Arabic \u2018Your dignity is Lebanon&#8217;s dignity.\u201d (AFP photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In a Sunday interview, the first since he flew to Saudi Arabia, Hariri described himself as a \u201cfree man\u201d who intended to \u201creturn\u201d to his home country \u201cwithin days,\u201d denying widespread speculations that he had been under house arrest.<\/p>\n<p>Observers say even if he returned to Lebanon, Saudi Arabia could still hold his family \u201chostage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hariri had taken\u00a0to Twitter on Tuesday, saying he is \u201cwell\u201d and will return to Lebanon \u201cwithin says,\u201d but that his family will stay in Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p>Hariri has cited several reasons, including the security situation in Lebanon, for his sudden decision. He also said that he realized a plot was being hatched against his life. Furthermore, Hariri also accused Iran and the Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, of meddling in the Arab countries\u2019 affairs; an allegation the two have strongly rejected.
