We hope that the blockading nations see reason in this matter and allow for their people to be able to participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity,\u201d Hassan Al Thawadi, secretary general at Qatar&#8217;s Supreme Committee for Delivery &amp; Legacy, told reporters in Doha.<\/p>\n<p>The committee is responsible for planning and operations for the quadrennial international men&#8217;s\u00a0football\u00a0championship contested by the\u00a0national teams\u00a0of the member associations of\u00a0FIFA.<\/p>\n<p>Thawadi said Doha has had to find new suppliers of construction materials for its World Cup projects ever since Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Egypt imposed a blockade, stressing that efforts at building sports facilities and infrastructure for the tournament remain on track.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur plans are put in place, alternative supply chains are put in place and the projects are continuing on schedule and on cost,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain\u00a0and Egypt all cut off diplomatic ties\u00a0with Qatar on June 5, after officially accusing it of \u201csponsoring terrorism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The administration of Saudi-backed\u00a0and resigned Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, Libya, the Maldives, Djibouti, Senegal and the Comoros later joined the camp in ending diplomatic ties. Jordan downgraded its\u00a0diplomatic relations as well.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/217.218.67.233\/\/photo\/20171120\/7e5463df-67d2-490b-b13a-62f1a294cf61.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"313\" \/><figcaption>People walk on the corniche of the Qatari capital Doha on July 2, 2017. \u00a0(Photo by AFP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Qatar&#8217;s Foreign Ministry later announced that the decisions to cut diplomatic ties were unjustified and based on false claims and assumptions.<\/p>\n<p>On June 9, Qatar strongly dismissed allegations of supporting terrorism after the Saudi regime and its allies blacklisted dozens of individuals and entities purportedly associated with Doha.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe recent joint statement issued by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and the UAE regarding a \u2018terror finance watch list\u2019 once again reinforces baseless allegations that hold no foundation in fact,\u201d the Qatari government said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>On June 23, Saudi Arabia and its allies released a 13-point list\u00a0of demands, including the closure of Al Jazeera television network and downgrade of relations with Iran,\u00a0in return for the normalization of diplomatic relations with Doha.<\/p>\n<p>The document containing the demands by Saudi Arabia,\u00a0Egypt, the UAE and\u00a0Bahrain also asked\u00a0Qatar to sever all ties with the\u00a0Muslim Brotherhood\u00a0and the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Qatar has urged the four countries engaged in the\u00a0ongoing Saudi-led diplomatic and trade boycott against the energy-rich Persian Gulf kingdom\u00a0to allow their nationals to attend the 2022 F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Internationale de Football Association\u00a0(FIFA) World Cup in Doha. \u201cWe separate politics from sports.
