German Chancellor Angela Merkel has urged hastening talks aimed at forming a new coalition government with the Social Democratic Party (SPD).<\/p>\n

“I favor quick talks. And I think a stable government is the basis on which we can work best with France and for Europe,” said Merkel following a meeting of her Christian Democratic Union party.<\/em><\/p>\n

“I am not exaggerating when I say that the world is waiting for us to be able to act<\/em>,” she added.<\/p>\n

Merkel’s remarks come just a few days after, the chairman of the Social Democratic Party called party members\u00a0to support him on forming a “grand coalition” with Chancellor\u00a0Angela Merkel’s\u00a0party.<\/p>\n

SPD leader Martin Schulz made the appeal at a party gathering\u00a0of Germany’s Social Democrats in Berlin on Thursday to discuss\u00a0talks with Merkel’s\u00a0center-right bloc.<\/p><\/div>\n

Negotiations between the two parties are scheduled for Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The SPD initially refused to enter a new coalition with Merkel’s part butlater changed their mind after the Christian Democrats\u2019 coalition talks with two smaller parties fell through.<\/p>\n

The political uncertainty in Germany is a result the September vote in which Merkel\u2019s party lost their parliamentary majority.<\/p>\n
