{"id":12907,"date":"2018-01-24T16:28:51","date_gmt":"2018-01-24T16:28:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/?p=12907"},"modified":"2018-01-24T16:28:51","modified_gmt":"2018-01-24T16:28:51","slug":"pakistan-condemns-us-drone-strike-in-kurram-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/pakistan-condemns-us-drone-strike-in-kurram-region\/","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan condemns US drone strike in Kurram region"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"item-text\">\n<p>Pakistani authorities have condemned a \u201cunilateral\u201d move by the United States to bomb areas inside its territory through a drone strike, saying a Wednesday attack\u00a0which allegedly targeted militant hideouts\u00a0would further hurt trust between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuch unilateral actions, as that of today, are detrimental to the spirit of cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism,\u201d said a statement from the Pakistani foreign office on Wednesday, adding that the unmanned aircraft\u2019s missiles \u201ctargeted an Afghan refugee\u201d camp in Pakistan\u2019s northwestern region of Kurram.<\/p>\n<p>Reports said two major figures from the Haqqani network, a militant group based in Pakistan and allied to the Taliban in Afghanistan, were killed in the US drone attack reported on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>A police officer and an intelligence official identified the militants as Ahsan Khorai and Nasir Mehmood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwo militants from Haqqani network were killed in the drone attack,\u201d said the intelligence official, adding that the two militants lived in the village of Dapa Mamozai in Kurram.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan has become fiercely critical of a new US policy to increase the number of drone attacks targeting locations inside the country. Islamabad fears the attacks could spread beyond the tribal regions.<\/p>\n<p>Two of such drone strikes over the past two months left a man severely injured in FATA and killed a Haqqani militant in an undisclosed location.<\/p>\n<p>The drones are normally dispatched from US bases in Afghanistan. The US military mission in Afghanistan said Wednesday it had no information on the drone strike reports.<\/p>\n<p>US President Donald Trump has criticized Pakistan for its alleged support to militants in Afghanistan.
