{"id":13292,"date":"2018-03-18T15:35:17","date_gmt":"2018-03-18T15:35:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/?p=13292"},"modified":"2018-03-18T15:35:17","modified_gmt":"2018-03-18T15:35:17","slug":"syrias-president-visits-troops-in-eastern-ghouta-near-damascus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/syrias-president-visits-troops-in-eastern-ghouta-near-damascus\/","title":{"rendered":"Syria&#8217;s president visits troops in Eastern Ghouta near Damascus"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"item-text\">\n<p><strong>Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has visited\u00a0army positions and talked to Syrian forces in Eastern Ghouta suburb of the capital Damascus, Syrian state news agency SANA reports.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>President Assad with the heroes of Syrian Arab Army at the frontlines in Eastern Ghouta, SANA reported.<\/p>\n<p>Photos released by Syria\u2019s official news agency showed President Assad surrounded by a crowd of men in military clothing, some perched on top of tanks.<\/p>\n<p>The photographs were taken in a street lined with damaged building fronts with a couple of parked tanks.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/217.218.67.233\/\/photo\/20180318\/efbaa6dc-09d5-4d01-93a3-3a6a009810b6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"312\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Syria and Russia have cornered foreign-backed militants in the countryside as part of their campaign to liberate civilians holed up there and end militant attacks from the suburb on Damascus.<\/p>\n<p>During their advances in the area, Syrian forces have\u00a0uncovered workshops used to\u00a0make\u00a0chemical weapons. The Syrian military has also intercepted several arms\u00a0and ammunition cargoes heading to\u00a0Eastern Ghouta.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Sunday,\u00a0Syrian army gave\u00a0foreign-sponsored Takfiri terrorists operating inside Harasta\u00a0town of the Eastern Ghouta\u00a0enclave to withdraw till 3 p.m. local time (1300 GMT).<\/p>\n<p>The report came shortly after Syria\u2019s official news agency SANA reported that thousands of civilians, whom extremists were using as human shields to slow down the progress of government forces and their allied fighters from popular defense groups, have managed to leave Eastern Ghouta.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/217.218.67.233\/\/photo\/20180318\/8827108e-4e15-408b-84a0-0aed700ce111.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"312\" \/><figcaption>An elderly woman is assisted by a man and a policeman as people are being evacuated by Syrian forces from Eastern Ghouta on the outskirts of capital, Damascus, March 18, 2018. (Photo by SANA)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Syrian army soldiers have started an operation to comb Saqba\u00a0town, located 7 kilometers east of central Damascus, of hidden explosive devices planted by Takfiri militants in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Syrian government forces are now pursuing the remnants of terrorist organizations in the towns of Kafr Batna and Saqba in the southern outskirts of Eastern Ghouta.<\/p>\n<p>The Syrian army said recently it had captured 70 percent of Eastern Ghouta, after splitting the area into sections to facilitate the battle against various militant groups there.<\/p>\n<p>Eastern Ghouta, a besieged area on the outskirts of Damascus which is home to some 400,000 people, has witnessed deadly violence over the past few days, with foreign-sponsored terrorists launching mortar attacks on the Syrian capital in the face of an imminent humiliating defeat.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has visited\u00a0army positions and talked to Syrian forces in Eastern Ghouta suburb of the capital Damascus, Syrian state news agency SANA reports.
