{"id":14319,"date":"2018-07-16T18:01:04","date_gmt":"2018-07-16T18:01:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/?p=14319"},"modified":"2018-07-16T18:01:04","modified_gmt":"2018-07-16T18:01:04","slug":"us-china-trade-war-pushing-oil-buyers-toward-iran","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/us-china-trade-war-pushing-oil-buyers-toward-iran\/","title":{"rendered":"US-China trade war pushing oil buyers toward Iran"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"item-text\">\n<p><strong>Indications are growing that Chinese companies are scrapping plans to purchase oil from the United States and are instead turning to Iran for imports in what appears to be a result of escalating trade tariff war between Beijing and Washington. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sinopec, Asia\u2019s top refiner, was quoted by media as announcing that it planned to limit purchases of oil from the US and that it would instead increase imports from Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Sinopec would continue to buy Iranian oil on fears that China would impose tariffs on US oil imports, Asia Times quoted an unnamed company executive as saying.<\/p>\n<p>The report further added that many other Chinese companies were also planning to limit their oil imports from the US in favor of bigger purchases from Iran.<\/p>\n<div data-oembed-url=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/DetailFr\/2018\/06\/19\/565444\/Iran-China-US-Trump-oil-exports-markets-trade-war\">\n<div class=\"oembed\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/DetailFr\/2018\/06\/19\/565444\/Iran-China-US-Trump-oil-exports-markets-trade-war\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/1452858779.rsc.cdn77.org\/photo\/20180619\/55dab465-39be-455e-a0c1-34cea150431f.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/DetailFr\/2018\/06\/19\/565444\/Iran-China-US-Trump-oil-exports-markets-trade-war\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">US-China trade war likely to benefit Iran: Experts<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/DetailFr\/2018\/06\/19\/565444\/Iran-China-US-Trump-oil-exports-markets-trade-war\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">China has threatened to retaliate by slapping duties on several American commodities, including oil.<\/a><\/div>\n<p>China, the world\u2019s top crude oil buyer and Iran\u2019s biggest client, imported around 655,000 barrels a day on average from the Islamic Republic in the first quarter of this year, according to official Chinese customs data. The figure was equivalent to more than a quarter of Iran\u2019s total exports over the period, media earlier reported.<\/p>\n<p>Sinopec and state-oil trader Zhuhai Zhenrong Corp already account for close to 90 percent of China\u2019s total Iranian oil purchases collectively. State oil group CNPC buys the rest, according to a recent report by Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, China\u2019s biggest refiner ShanDong Dongming Petrochemical Group also announced that it had halted crude oil purchases from the US and instead turned to Iran for imports.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement \u2013 as reported by Russia Today \u2013 came amid escalating tensions between Beijing and Washington over trade tariffs.<\/p>\n<p>RT added in its report that the company\u2019s decision came as Chinese authorities were planning to impose tariffs on US crude imports and replace them with oil from West Africa and the Middle East, including Iran.<\/p>\n<p>It also highlighted an announcement by Beijing that it was not going to fall into line with US sanctions banning business with the Islamic republic.<\/p>\n<div data-oembed-url=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2018\/07\/12\/567854\/China-US-trade-war-retaliate-in-other-ways\">\n<div class=\"oembed\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2018\/07\/12\/567854\/China-US-trade-war-retaliate-in-other-ways\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/1452858779.rsc.cdn77.org\/photo\/20180712\/9526815d-f73c-4668-a5e3-6b60b7562927.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2018\/07\/12\/567854\/China-US-trade-war-retaliate-in-other-ways\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PressTV-China planning to retaliate against US \u2018in other ways\u2019<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2018\/07\/12\/567854\/China-US-trade-war-retaliate-in-other-ways\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">China is reportedly reviewing plans to hit back at aggressive US trade measures \u201cin other ways,\u201d a report says, citing Chinese officials.<\/a><\/div>\n<p>China is America\u2019s second-biggest crude-oil customer with exports reportedly totaling 400,000 barrels a day at the beginning of July. However, in response to the latest US tariffs on Chinese goods, Beijing slapped American crude imports with a 25-percent levy, RT further wrote.<\/p>\n<p>US tariffs of 25 percent on $34 billion of Chinese imports took effect on July 6.
