{"id":14526,"date":"2018-07-30T15:43:20","date_gmt":"2018-07-30T15:43:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/?p=14526"},"modified":"2018-07-30T15:43:20","modified_gmt":"2018-07-30T15:43:20","slug":"trump-doesnt-understand-irans-culture-of-resistance-sherman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/trump-doesnt-understand-irans-culture-of-resistance-sherman\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump doesn\u2019t understand Iran&#8217;s culture of resistance: Sherman"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"item-text\">\n<p><strong>A former US under secretary of state for political affairs has taken President Donald Trump to task for his rash policies and uncalculated measures towards Iran after taking Washington out of a nuclear deal with Tehran, saying Trump does not understand Iran&#8217;s culture of resistance.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Yahoo News published on Sunday, Wendy Sherman slammed Trump&#8217;s use of threats to push his adversaries into submission, emphasizing that Iranians are not a nation to surrender to any threats.<\/p>\n<p>Sherman was a key member of the US nuclear negotiating team under former secretary of state, John Kerry, who pulled off the Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), to fruition in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is a stern critic of the nuclear accord, agreed between Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council \u2013 the United States, France, Britain, Russia and China \u2013 plus Germany. Under the JCPOA, Iran undertook to put limits on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions imposed against Tehran.<\/p>\n<p>The US president announced on May 8 that Washington was walking away from the nuclear agreement and that he planned to reinstate US nuclear sanctions on Iran and impose &#8220;the highest level&#8221; of economic bans on the Islamic Republic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Iran files complaint with ICJ over re-imposition of US sanctions: Zarif<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Europeans must give necessary guarantees on JCPOA: Ayatollah Khamenei<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Nuclear deal remains diplomatic triumph despite US exit: Iran FM<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Europe must offer plans for full implementation of Iran nuclear deal: Larijani<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sharply criticizing the US president&#8217;s policy toward Iran, Sherman said, \u201cPresident Trump\u2019s diplomatic style is to thump adversaries over the head with threats, and then after beating them up offer to sit down to talk and try and seal a deal.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The former American nuclear negotiator added, \u201cWhat he [Trump] doesn\u2019t understand is that Iran has a culture of resistance that equates giving in to those kinds of public threats as surrender, and they won\u2019t surrender.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Trump has stepped up his hostile rhetoric against Iran. Just last week, he threatened Iran with hardship &#8220;the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered before.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Trump&#8217;s pugnacious Twitter message in all capital letters came late on July 22 after Iranian President Hassan Rouhani warned his US counterpart not to \u201cplay with the lion\u2019s tail.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just days after the US president threatened the Islamic Republic with incredible hardships, he claimed that Washington was ready to make a &#8220;real deal&#8221; with Iran over the country\u2019s nuclear program.<\/p>\n<div data-oembed-url=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2018\/07\/24\/569165\/US-Donald-Trump-Iran-deal-JCPOA-Hassan-Rouhani\">\n<div class=\"oembed\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/1452858779.rsc.cdn77.org\/photo\/20180724\/46ae4183-d54a-4b36-891d-aff737fa9743.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"title\">PressTV-Trump: US ready to make \u2018real deal\u2019 with Iran<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>US President Donald Trump claims Washington is ready to make a &#8220;real deal&#8221; with Iran over the country\u2019s nuclear program.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIran is not the same country anymore, that I can say,\u201d Trump said during a speech at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) national convention in the US state of Missouri, adding,\u00a0\u201cAnd we\u2019ll see what happens, but we\u2019re ready to make a real deal, not the deal that was done by the previous administration, which was a disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sherman\u2019s remarks came after the commander of the Quds Force of Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) sharply reacted to the recent military threat by Trump against the Islamic Republic on Thursday, saying, \u201cYou threaten us with an action that is \u2018unprecedented\u2019 in the world. This is cabaret-style rhetoric.
