(Photo by the Associated Press)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"item-text\">\n<p><strong>The Iraqi Judiciary has\u00a0upheld death sentences against more than a dozen convicts involved in a June 2014 massacre by Daesh Takfiri\u00a0terrorists at an air force camp in the country\u2019s north-central province of Salahuddin.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Head of the Committee\u00a0for the\u00a0Commemoration\u00a0of\u00a0the carnage, Moin al-Kazemi, said in a statement that Iraqi judicial officials passed the ruling on 14 convicts on Sunday, urging the officials to carry out the sentences as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>On June 12, 2014, Daesh terrorists killed around 1,700 Iraqi air force cadets after kidnapping them from Camp Speicher, a former US base. There were reportedly around 4,000 unarmed cadets in the camp when it came under attack by Daesh militants.<\/p>\n<p>Following the abductions, the attackers took the victims to the complex of presidential palaces and killed them. The terrorists also threw some of the bodies into a river.<\/p>\n<p>The massacre was filmed by Daesh and broadcast\u00a0on social media.<\/p>\n<p>An investigation committee later revealed that 57 members of Saddam Hussein\u2019s Ba\u2019ath Party aided Takfiri Daesh terrorists in the massacre.<\/p>\n<p>On August 21, 2016, Iraqi judiciary officials hanged\u00a036 men convicted of involvement in the carnage.<\/p>\n<p>Tikrit was recaptured from Daesh in March 2015.\u00a0During clean-up operations in the northern part of the city, Iraqi forces found the location of the 2014 carnage.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/217.218.67.233\/\/photo\/20180819\/bde663cf-1e5a-42b1-b8a1-3c9bd55fb41f.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"312\" \/><figcaption>An image taken from a video posted by Daesh militants shows the terrorists executing captured Iraqi soldiers from Camp Speicher near Tikrit, northern Iraq, on June 12, 2014.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On June 30, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, who is also the commander-in-chief of Iraqi forces, pledged to hunt down Daesh militants across Iraq after a series of attacks and abductions carried out by the terrorist group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will chase the remaining cells of terrorism in their hideouts and we will kill them, we will chase them everywhere, in the mountains and the desert,\u201d Abadi said.<\/p>\n<p>Abadi declared the end of military operations against Daesh in the Arab country on December 9, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>On July 10 that year, the Iraqi prime minister had formally declared victory over Daesh extremists in Mosul, which served as the terrorists\u2019 main urban stronghold in the conflict-ridden Arab country.<\/p>\n<p>In the run-up to Mosul&#8217;s liberation, Iraqi army soldiers and volunteer Hashd al-Sha\u2019abi fighters\u00a0had made sweeping gains against Daesh.<\/p>\n<p>Iraqi forces took control of eastern Mosul in January 2017 after 100 days of fighting, and launched the battle in the west on February 19 last year.<\/p>\n<p>Daesh began a terror campaign in Iraq in 2014, overrunning vast swathes in lightning attacks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An image taken from a video posted by Daesh militants shows the terrorists leading away captured Iraqi soldiers from Camp Speicher near Tikrit, northern Iraq, on June 12, 2014.
