{"id":14663,"date":"2018-08-30T17:27:58","date_gmt":"2018-08-30T17:27:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/?p=14663"},"modified":"2018-08-30T17:27:58","modified_gmt":"2018-08-30T17:27:58","slug":"israeli-settlers-set-up-unauthorized-outpost-in-northern-west-bank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/israeli-settlers-set-up-unauthorized-outpost-in-northern-west-bank\/","title":{"rendered":"Israeli settlers set up unauthorized outpost in northern West Bank"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"item-text\">\n<p><strong>A group of Israeli settlers have established an unauthorized outpost in the northern part of the occupied West Bank in the latest move that would likely make it difficult for local\u00a0Palestinians\u00a0to gain access to their nearby land.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The coordinator for the popular anti-settlement committee south of Nablus,\u00a0Bashar al-Qaryouti, told Arabic-language Safa news agency that settlers from the evacuated settlement of Amona have erected five tents and several shelters in close proximity to Qaryout\u00a0village, located 28 kilometers southeast of\u00a0Nablus.<\/p>\n<p>Qaryouti noted that settlers have carried out acts of barbarism and intimidation against local Palestinian farmers. Some of the Jewish extremists keep\u00a0wandering around\u00a0with sophisticated automatic weapons, threatening locals.<\/p>\n<p>The Palestinian anti-settlement activist explained that settlers have large herds of livestock, leaving them grazing in Palestinian agricultural land and causing great damage to their olive trees.<\/p>\n<p>Qaryouti added that Palestinian farmers are afraid to get close to their land, stressing that legal steps had been taken to remove the outpost.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/217.218.67.233\/\/photo\/20180830\/c9a2f5ff-d35c-455e-a1da-2418e900dd90.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"312\" \/><figcaption>This aerial file picture, taken through the window of an airplane, shows the Israeli Ariel settlement in the occupied West Bank. (Photo by the AP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Less than a month before US President Donald Trump took office in January 2017, the United Nations Security Council adopted\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.presstv.ir\/DetailFr\/2017\/01\/06\/505101\/Israel-PM-Netanyahu-thank-US-House-of-Representatives-Security-Council-resolution-2334-settlements\">Resolution 2334<\/a>, calling on Israel to \u201cimmediately and completely cease all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem\u201d al-Quds.<\/p>\n<p>About 600,000 Israelis live in over 230 illegal settlements built since the 1967 Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East Jerusalem al-Quds.<\/p>\n<p>Palestinians want\u00a0the West Bank as part of a future independent Palestinian\u00a0state, with East Jerusalem al-Quds as its capital.<\/p>\n<p>The last round of Israeli-Palestinian talks collapsed in 2014. Among the major sticking points in those negotiations was Israel\u2019s continued settlement expansion on Palestinian territories.<\/p>\n<p>Trump backtracked on Washington\u2019s support for a \u201ctwo-state solution\u201d in February last year, saying he would support any solution favored by both sides.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLooking at two-state or one-state, I like the one that both parties like. I\u2019m very happy with the one both parties like.
