(Photo by Iraqi Air Force)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"item-text\">\n<p><strong>The Iraqi military has received a new batch of South Korean KAI T-50 Golden Eagle supersonic advanced\u00a0trainers\u00a0and light combat aircraft under a deal struck between Baghdad and Seoul several years ago.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Iraqi Air Force, in a statement released on Sunday, announced that six T-50 trainer jets had arrived in a military airbase.<\/p>\n<p>The Iraqi government confirmed in March 2017 that it had received the first batch of the South Korean combat aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>The Defense Ministry said that the second shipment was delivered in May this year.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2013, Iraq signed a contract for 24 South Korean T-50 fighter jets, plus additional equipment and pilot training over the next 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>The contract was initially estimated at $1.1 billion, but the manufacturer Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) later put the figure beyond $2 billion.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/217.218.67.233\/\/photo\/20181028\/42885b50-bf31-4f8f-b8fe-1f580b8df63d.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"312\" \/><figcaption>This picture shows KAI T-50 Golden Eagle fighter jets, recently received from South Korea, being offloaded from a vessel in Iraq on October 28, 2018. (Photo by Iraqi Air Force)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The\u00a0KAI T-50 Golden Eagle\u2019s maiden flight\u00a0occurred in 2002. The aircraft entered active service with the\u00a0Republic of Korea Air Force\u00a0in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>On June 7, the Iraqi Defense Ministry stated that it had taken delivery of 39 advanced T-90\u00a0battle tanks from Russia, adding that the armored fighting vehicles had been distributed between two battalions of an army brigade.<\/p>\n<p>The statement said that Iraqi military personnel had already been trained by Russian experts on how to operate the battle tanks.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0T-90\u00a0is a\u00a0third-generation\u00a0Russian\u00a0battle tank built upon the time-proven Soviet T-72 design.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/217.218.67.233\/\/photo\/20181028\/0343bde2-efba-48f1-95d7-d088ff7b5298.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"312\" \/><figcaption>This picture shows KAI T-50 Golden Eagle fighter jets, recently received from South Korea, being offloaded from a vessel in Iraq on October 28, 2018. (Photo by Iraqi Air Force)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It is among the best-selling tanks in the world, and known for its firepower, enhanced protection and mobility.<\/p>\n<p>The T-90 features a smoothbore 2A46M 125mm main gun, which can fire both armor-piercing shells and anti-tank missiles.<\/p>\n<p>The advanced tank also features sophisticated armor, ensuring all-round protection of the crew and critical systems, including explosive reactive armor and active infrared jammers to defend it from inbound rocket-propelled grenades, anti-tank missiles and other projectiles.<\/p>\n<p>The Iraqi military plans to reinforce its fleet of M1A1 Abrams main battle tanks with T-90s. A large number of American M1A1 Abrams tanks have been damaged in the fight against\u00a0Daesh Takfiri terrorists.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Iraqi forces capture Qayyarah bombing mastermind<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Iraqi government forces have arrested the mastermind behind a recent bomb explosion, which left dozens of people dead and injured,\u00a0in Iraq\u2019s northern province of Nineveh.<\/p>\n<p>A car bomb attack killed six people and wounded 26 more at a market\u00a0in the town of al-Qayyarah, located 60 kilometers (40 miles) south of Daesh&#8217;s former Iraqi capital of Mosul, on October 23.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/217.218.67.233\/\/photo\/20181028\/1b91cc7b-7c5f-46c3-9b24-51ac1b452113.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"312\" \/><figcaption>Iraqi mourners attend a funeral after a car bomb attack on October 23, 2018 killed six people and wounded 26 more at a market in the town of al-Qayyarah, located 60 kilometers (40 miles) south of Daesh&#8217;s former Iraqi capital of Mosul. (Photo by AFP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ayoub Anwar, the police chief of the northern Iraqi town of Dibka, said Ibrahim Hussein was detained inside the Dibka refugee camp.
