RNA \u2013 During his Friday prayer sermon delivered to a large crowd of believers and mourners \u200eat the Holy Shrine of Imam al-Husayn in the Iraqi city of Karbala, Hujjat al-Islam Sayyid \u200eAhmad al-Safi offered thanks and appreciation to all the officials, in both the public and \u200eprivate sectors\u200e, whose efforts contributed to the success of the Arba\u2019in al-Husayn \u200epilgrimage, which reached its peak on October 30th. \u200e<\/p>\n

The representative of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani added that this year, five axes \u200ewere added to the two axes of last year to attend the holy city of Karbala and said, \u201cWe \u200ethank and appreciate all the people who were active in different parts of the world and \u200eended in Karbala.\u201d\u200e<\/p>\n

He referred to the announcement of the number of pilgrims present in Karbala and said, \u201cTo \u200ecount the number of pilgrims entering the holy city of Karbala, cameras were installed from \u200ethe 7th of Safar [October 17th] until 12:00 am on the 20th of Safar [October 30th] and \u200eobserved and counted the number of pilgrims. This is while many pilgrims were present both \u200ebefore and after these dates to attend the Arba\u2019in pilgrimage.\u201d \u200e<\/p>\n

Hujjat al-Islam al-Safi added that this year, more than 15 million Iraqi and foreign pilgrims \u200earrived in the holy city of Karbala to attend the Arba\u2019in pilgrimage.\u200e<\/p>\n

The custodian of the Holy Shrine of Hadhrat Abbas called for a solution to the problems in \u200eregard to the transportation of the pilgrims and stated, \u201cUnfortunately, during all [large] \u200egatherings there is a problem with the transportation of pilgrims and there must be serious \u200eand necessary measures made in this regard.\u201d \u200e<\/p>\n

He stated, \u201cServing the pilgrims and providing them with all their needs is one of the unique \u200eand excellent features of the Iraqi people. That the pilgrims were able to take care of their \u200eaffairs without any incident or problem, indicates their vigilance and sincerity.\u201d\u200e<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Hujjat al-Islam al-Safi praised the mawkibs [booths which give out free food, beverages, \u200eplaces to sleep and other necessities] because of the importance they gave to the cleaning \u200ethe pathways and called for increased efforts in this regard.\u200e<\/p>\n

It must be noted that Arba\u2019in marks forty days after the Day of Ashura, the day Imam al-\u200eHusayn ibn Ali, the Prophet Muhammad\u2019s grandson, was martyred in the Battle of Karbala in \u200e\u200e680 CE. \u200e<\/p>\n

On the day of Arba\u2019in, the Shi\u2019ah faithful traditionally walk for several days or longer to reach \u200ethe Iraqi holy city of Karbala where crowds chant and march around the Holy Shrine of \u200eImam Husayn.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
