Russia has rejected fresh US accusations regarding a chemical weapons attack in Syria’s\u00a0Aleppo, saying Washington is trying to whitewash terrorists’ gas attacks and distract public opinion from American\u00a0crimes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

US State Department deputy spokesman Robert Palladino claimed Friday\u00a0that Moscow and Damascus were behind the Aleppo gas attack on November 24 and cautioned them against “tampering with the suspected attack site.”<\/p>\n

He also claimed that Russia and Syria had “falsely accused the opposition and extremist groups of conducting a chlorine attack in northwestern Aleppo.”<\/p>\n

The Russian Defense Ministry denounced the allegations, saying it has\u00a0“irrefutable evidence of\u00a0the use of\u00a0munitions filled with\u00a0toxic agents against\u00a0the civilian population” in the incident.<\/p>\n

“The statement by\u00a0the US State Department is nothing more than\u00a0an attempt to\u00a0whitewash the international terrorists operating in\u00a0Idlib and associated with\u00a0the White Helmets pseudo-rescuers, who have put their Western patrons in\u00a0a bad spotlight with\u00a0their provocation,” the ministry said.<\/p>\n

It said\u00a0the deliveries of chemicals to militants have\u00a0usually\u00a0been \u201csynched\u201d\u00a0with Washington, warning that the US is ready to conduct another large-scale missile strike in Syria under the pretext of the alleged use of\u00a0chemical arms\u00a0by the Syrian government.<\/p>\n

The Russian Defense Ministry further said the “hysterical” US statement is meant to divert the public attention from\u00a0the killings of civilians by the US military in\u00a0eastern\u00a0Syria and hinder an “unbiased investigation” into the Aleppo attack by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).<\/p>\n

Syria\u2019s foreign ministry has called on the UN Security Council to condemn the recent chemical attack carried out by the foreign-backed militants in the northern city of Aleppo.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

According to Syrian media reports, more than 100 people were injured as a result of the November 24 attack, which is believed to have been launched from an area controlled by al-Nusra Front terrorists in Idlib Province.<\/p>\n

Immediately after the attack, Damascus called on the OPCW to send a fact-finding mission to Aleppo.<\/p>\n

Russian experts say they\u00a0have recovered samples of soil and fragments of buildings to determine the toxic agent used in the assault.<\/p>\n

The Russian Defense Ministry said over\u00a0the past\u00a0six months it has\u00a0been informing the public about deliveries of\u00a0toxic chemicals to\u00a0terrorists and the White Helmets by\u00a0the security services of Western governments.<\/p>\n

Syria surrendered its entire chemical stockpile in 2013 to a mission led by the OPCW and the UN.<\/p>\n

The US has already attacked Syrian army and government positions following alleged chemical spread which Washington has blamed on Damascus.<\/p>\n

On Friday, a US Navy anti-submarine patrol aircraft Poseidon P-8A was spotted conducting a surveillance flight near\u00a0the coast of\u00a0Syria, where Russia’s\u00a0Hmeimim airbase and Tartus naval facility are situated.<\/p>\n

According to the IntelSky\u00a0flight tracker, the plane departed from\u00a0the US Naval\u00a0Air Station\u00a0Sigonella in\u00a0Sicily on\u00a0Friday and flew for\u00a0more than three hours over\u00a0the international waters of\u00a0the Eastern Mediterranean along\u00a0the Syrian coast.<\/p>\n

Russia has deployed advanced S-300 air defense and radar systems in the face of frequent aerial invasion by the US and Israel in Syria.<\/p>\n

On Friday, a Syrian opposition figure said the Russian S-300 missile defense systems should remain in Syria.<\/p>\n

“If they are good for\u00a0Syria, for\u00a0sure we would like\u00a0them to\u00a0stay there,” Hadi al-Bahra, a representative from the so-called\u00a0Syrian Negotiation Commission\u00a0(SNC), told Russia’s Sputnik news agency.<\/p>\n

“We need to\u00a0look at\u00a0the cause. If they are there to\u00a0protect the Syrian territories from\u00a0enemies, airstrikes, then they are positive,” he added.<\/p>\n
