{"id":15775,"date":"2019-01-25T06:37:56","date_gmt":"2019-01-25T06:37:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/?p=15775"},"modified":"2019-01-25T06:37:56","modified_gmt":"2019-01-25T06:37:56","slug":"ayatollah-sistani-meets-with-un-envoy-in-iraq","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/ayatollah-sistani-meets-with-un-envoy-in-iraq\/","title":{"rendered":"Ayatollah Sistani meets with UN envoy in Iraq"},"content":{"rendered":"<section>\n<div class=\"row subtitle-box\">\n<div class=\"subtitle row\"><strong>Rasa \u2013 The head of the United Nations Investigative Team on Daesh crimes in Iraq met with \u200eAyatollah al-Sistani at his office in Iraq.\u200e<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"body row\"><strong>RNA \u2013 Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali al-Sistani, a revered Najaf-based source of emulation met \u200ewth Karim Asad Ahmad Khan, a British lawyer, human rights specialist and the head of the \u200eUnited Nation\u2019s investigative team, and Nicole Al-Khouri, a lawyer from the group, at his \u200eoffice in the holy Iraqi city of Najaf.\u200e<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>His Eminence expressed his satisfaction over the formation of an investigative team to \u200eevaluate the crimes committed by the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group in Iraq.\u200e<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>He emphasized on the necessity of storing pieces of evidence of the crimes committed by \u200ethe terrorist organization adding, \u201cThe perpetrators of such crimes must be prosecuted for \u200etheir actions, and the world must be aware of their danger.\u201d\u200e<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ayatollah al-Sistani called for serious attention to Daesh\u2019s crimes against the Christians and \u200eTurkmens in Nineveh Governorate, as well as the Yazidis in the Sinjar region and stated, \u201cThe \u200ehorrific crimes committed by the terrorists in taking women as slaves and selling them must \u200ealso be taken into consideration.\u201d\u200e<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>He also emphasized the necessity of returning the displaced to their home areas and \u200eproviding the opportunity they needed and added, \u201cAlthough reconstruction of Iraq\u2019s war-\u200etorn cities is the duty of the Iraqi government, international committees must also help Iraq \u200ein this task.\u201d\u200e<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>During the meeting, the United Nations envoy provided a report on the tasks accomplished \u200eby the investigative team and asked Ayatollah al-Sistani to encourage victims of Daesh\u2019s \u200ecrimes, especially the women, to \u201cstep forward and cooperate with the investigative team.\u201d\u200e<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>It should be noted that in July 2014, Daesh claimed that it had formed a global caliphate and \u200ecalled itself the Islamic State. It controlled large parts of northern Iraq, eastern Syria, with \u200epopulations of 2.8 million and 8 million people respectively, and small sections of Libya, \u200eNigeria and Afghanistan.\u200e<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In a letter to Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, on \u200eNovember 21, 2017, General Qasem Soleymani announced the end of the domination of \u200eDaesh.
