{"id":15969,"date":"2019-02-11T03:43:36","date_gmt":"2019-02-11T03:43:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/?p=15969"},"modified":"2019-02-11T03:43:36","modified_gmt":"2019-02-11T03:43:36","slug":"sudanese-rally-to-urge-release-of-women-protesters-clash-with-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/sudanese-rally-to-urge-release-of-women-protesters-clash-with-police\/","title":{"rendered":"Sudanese rally to urge release of women protesters, clash with police"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"item-text\">\n<p><strong>Police in Sudan have clashed with anti-government demonstrators demanding the release of female political prisoners.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Police used tear gas on Sunday to disperse hundreds of protesters who marched on a women\u2019s prison in Omdurman \u2014 the twin city of the capital, Khartoum \u2014 calling for the release of female detainees arrested by police in earlier anti-government protests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are fighters, we will complete our mission,\u201d the protesters chanted while the women ululated and men flashed the victory sign, witnesses said, and as they rallied to call for the release of the women who had been arrested by police in previous\u00a0demonstrations against the long-time President Omar al-Bashir.<\/p>\n<p>After a first demonstration was dispersed, the protesters launched a second rally in another area of the town.
