{"id":16385,"date":"2019-05-08T13:05:17","date_gmt":"2019-05-08T13:05:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/?p=16385"},"modified":"2019-05-08T13:05:17","modified_gmt":"2019-05-08T13:05:17","slug":"iran-notifies-jcpoa-partners-of-suspension-of-some-commitments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/iran-notifies-jcpoa-partners-of-suspension-of-some-commitments\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran notifies JCPOA partners of suspension of some commitments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Iran has informed the five remaining signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal of its decision to suspend the implementation of some of its commitments under the multinational agreement, exactly one year after the United States unilaterally abandoned\u00a0the international document.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The ambassadors of the countries remaining in the deal \u2014 France, Britain, Germany, Russia and China \u2014 on Wednesday received a letter penned by President Rouhani elaborating the suspension of some of Iran&#8217;s commitments under the accord, officially called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).<\/p>\n<p>President Rouhani informed the Iranian people of the\u00a0decisions in a live televised speech. The document specifies the details of the decision taken by Iran\u2019s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), which is chaired by President Rouhani.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the SNSC said the\u00a0order is aimed at \u201csafeguarding the Iranian nation\u2019s security and interests\u201d in the line with national rights under Articles 26 and 36 of the JCPOA.<\/p>\n<p>The document says\u00a0Tehran has\u00a0exercised utmost <a href=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2018\/05\/08\/561071\/iran-us-rouhani-trump-jcpoa\">self-restraint and patience<\/a> since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2018\/05\/08\/561068\/Iran-nuclear-deal-Trump-us-jcpoa\">Washington&#8217;s exit <\/a>from the deal last May, and has given the remaining signatories \u201cconsiderable\u201d time at their own request to compensate for\u00a0Washington\u2019s withdrawal and guarantee Iran\u2019s interests.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, the other parties have failed to adopt any \u201cpractical measures\u201d to blunt the impact of the economic sanctions that were re-imposed against Tehran by the US following its withdrawal, the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>The Islamic Republic is thus entitled to restore the balance between its rights and obligations under the JCPOA, and has no option but to \u201creduce its commitments\u201d within the framework of the deal, it added.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>At the current stage, the statement\u00a0said, Iran will no longer consider\u00a0itself committed to the limits agreed under the deal\u00a0on its stocks of enriched uranium and heavy water stocks.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Under the JCPOA, Iran is allowed to keep 300 kilograms of uranium enriched up to 3.67 percent. The deal requires Tehran to sell off any enriched uranium above the limit on international markets in return for natural uranium.<\/p>\n<p>Tehran\u2019s stock of heavy water is also restricted to 130 tonnes under the deal, which also calls for Iran\u2019s excess heavy water to be sold to a foreign buyer.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Council has given Iran\u2019s partners in the deal \u201c60 days to meet their commitments, especially in the banking and oil sectors,\u201d said the statement.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If they fail to address Iran\u2019s concerns, Tehran will suspend the implementation of two more commitments under the JCPOA, according to the statement.<\/p>\n<p>In the next stage, Tehran will no longer be bound by its commitment to enrich uranium up to 3.67 percent and will also begin developing its Arak heavy water reactor based on its pre-JCPOA plans, it added.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhenever our demands are met, we will, to the same extent, resume the commitments. Iran, he added, helped stop the spread of terrorism to Europe and contained the influx of migrants into the continent.<\/p>\n<p>This cooperation will cease to exist if the situation continues as it is, he warned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Iran avoided US trap <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tehran, however, refused to play into the hands of the Trump administration by following in their footsteps and leaving the deal, Rouhani said.<\/p>\n<p>Had the Islamic Republic made such a move, the US would have taken Iran\u2019s case to the United Nations Security Council to both relieve itself of any responsibility in the matter and ratchet up pressure on the country, he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe won\u2019t allow the United States to turn a win-win deal into a win-lose one,\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;Don\u2019t abuse Iran\u2019s actions&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rouhani said that in the letter tendered to the envoys, Iran has clearly advised those countries against \u201cusing Iran&#8217;s measures as a pretext and trying to take its case back to the Security Council.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShould they do so, they will be faced with a very decisive action, which I have plainly described in the letter,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Iran not after war, still welcomes dialog\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s measures are, in fact, aimed at saving the deal, rather than destroying it, President Rouhani said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that it was not Tehran, which initiated non-commitment to the accord, and that the country was still prepared to join negotiations within the agreement\u2019s framework.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have not left the negotiation table,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The course of action adopted today does not mean Iran has chosen the path of conflict with the world, President Rouhani said. \u201cIt is still the course of diplomacy, but diplomacy using another language and logic.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/wilayahinfo\">https:\/\/t.me\/wilayahinfo<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Iran has informed the five remaining signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal of its decision to suspend the implementation of some of its commitments under the multinational agreement, exactly one year after the United States unilaterally abandoned\u00a0the international document.
