An Iraqi commander says the United States\u2019 increased pressure and threats aimed at Iran indicate Washington\u2019s \u201cnew idiocy\u201d and confusion.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jassim al-Jazairi, a senior commander of Iraq\u2019s Shia-majority military group known as Hashd al-Sha\u2019abi, made the remarks to IRNA on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Referring to the US’s ongoing military deployments in the Persian Gulf region, Jazairi said, \u201cAmerica\u2019s new idiocy in the region shows they (the Americans) are yet to learn from past experiences and from history\u00a0and think… that Iran is a quarry within reach.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAll that\u2019s happening,\u201d he added, \u201cshows the obvious chaos in American policies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jazairi, who is also a member of the Political Office of Iraq\u2019s Kata\u2019eb Hezbollah, an anti-terror group, was referring to the US deployment of an aircraft carrier, a bomber task force, and an assault ship to the Persian Gulf under the pretext that Iran poses an increased threat to the US.<\/p>\n

This is while Iran has said it has been exercising utmost restraint in the face of the US President Donald Trump administration\u2019s policy of \u201cmaximum pressure\u201d against Tehran.<\/p>\n

In a visit to Japan, Foreign Minister Zarif says Tehran is exercising \u201cmaximum restraint\u201d despite America\u2019s exit from the 2015 nuclear deal and re-imposition of tough sanctions against Iran.<\/p><\/div>\n

In a travel advisory issued on Wednesday, the US State Department ordered \u201cnon-emergency US government employees\u201d in Iraq to leave its embassy in Baghdad and its consulate in Erbil, the capital of Iraq\u2019s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.<\/p>\n

Iraqi officials have reacted strongly to the provocations and advised the US against seeking further escalation.<\/p>\n
