The US reimposed sanctions in November on exports of Iranian oil after President Donald Trump last spring pulled out of a 2015 nuclear deal.<\/p>\n<p>Iranian officials have characterized US measures akin to an \u201ceconomic war\u201d aimed at bringing the nation to its knees through chocking off the country\u2019s revenues.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, President Donald Trump imposed new sanctions targeting Iran\u2019s revenue from export of industrial metals.<\/p>\n<p>An executive order issued by Trump covers Iran\u2019s iron, steel, aluminum, and copper sectors, the Islamic Republic\u2019s largest non-petroleum-related sources of export revenue and 10 percent of its export economy.<\/p>\n<p>Press reports have said Washington plans even more stringent measures which will target other vital sectors of Iran\u2019s economy such as its massive petrochemical industry.<\/p>\n<div data-oembed-url=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2018\/09\/04\/573140\/Iran-petrochemical-methanol-Rouhani-US-China\">\n<div class=\"oembed\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2018\/09\/04\/573140\/Iran-petrochemical-methanol-Rouhani-US-China\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.presstv.com\/photo\/20180904\/f0e61682-e60f-43f0-9034-d94b9fa4fb39.jpg\" alt=\"PressTV-Iran scoffs at US as $1.85 billion worth of projects open\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2018\/09\/04\/573140\/Iran-petrochemical-methanol-Rouhani-US-China\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PressTV-Iran scoffs at US as $1.85 billion worth of projects open<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2018\/09\/04\/573140\/Iran-petrochemical-methanol-Rouhani-US-China\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">President Hassan Rouhani attends the opening of three projects about to add 3.4 million metric tons per year to Iran&#8217;s petrochemical capacity.<\/a><\/div>\n<p>On Monday, an official said Iran repatriated some 70% of the hard currency revenue earned from its export of petrochemical products during the first two months of the current Iranian year which began on March 21.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmad Mahdavi Abhar said the remaining 30% will be spent on purchasing new equipment and repaying debts abroad.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Petrochemical companies are the powerful arms of the government to provide hard currency while the country is suffering from the effects of sanctions,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Hemmati said 18.7 billion in export revenues have been repatriated since the start of the new Persian year. \u201cIn the past two months, the trend of the return of export revenues has been good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The governor said, \u201cThere are sufficient foreign exchange reserves in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hemmati said the central bank had provided $6 billion in the past two months to\u00a0procure essential goods and planned to give another $6 billion in the next two months.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/217.218.67.233\/\/photo\/20190522\/b67f6a74-4e0e-461f-88f9-401b4dbe0954.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"311\" \/><figcaption>Governor of the Central Bank of Iran Abdolnaser Hemmati<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The governor further advised Iranians not to deal in foreign exchange. Hemmati has said the government is in full control of the currency market that was hit by turmoil last year.<\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s currency has tanked over the past year, driven in part by the\u00a0return of US sanctions. The decline has generated a frenzied dollar hunt by some Iranians who mostly want to make a profit from the market turmoil.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople should not deal in speculation because they are likely to make losses.
