{"id":17191,"date":"2019-09-15T19:22:10","date_gmt":"2019-09-15T19:22:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/?p=17191"},"modified":"2019-09-15T19:22:10","modified_gmt":"2019-09-15T19:22:10","slug":"johnson-again-threatens-to-ignore-the-new-brexit-delaying-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/johnson-again-threatens-to-ignore-the-new-brexit-delaying-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Johnson again threatens to ignore the new Brexit-delaying law"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"item-text\">\n<p><strong>With the clock ticking to Brexit day on 31 October, Britain\u2019s embattled Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, is sticking to his guns on his stated policy of honouring the deadline on exiting the European Union (EU).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In an interview with The Mail on Sunday, Johnson makes the incendiary statement that should negotiations with EU leaders fail he will ignore the new law necessitating a three-month delay to Brexit.<\/p>\n<p>In a comical twist, the PM likened Britain to the fictional superhero, The Hulk, the central character in The Incredible Hulk movie.<\/p>\n<p>The mercurial PM vows that Britain will break out of the \u201cmanacles\u201d of the EU like the Incredible Hulk. \u201cThe madder Hulk gets, the stronger Hulk gets\u201d, Johnson quipped.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson\u2019s extraordinary statement of intent on potentially breaking the law \u2013 and risking jail &#8211; comes ahead of his all-important meeting tomorrow with EU bosses, including European Commission chief, Jean-Claude Juncker.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting will be held in Luxemburg, described as a \u201cneutral location\u201d by EU officials, where Juncker and Johnson will be joined by the EU\u2019s chief negotiator, Michel Barnier.<\/p>\n<p>But in a sign that the PM is not hopeful of achieving a breakthrough tomorrow, there are reports of both Whitehall and Buckingham Palace being placed on \u201cred alert\u201d after warnings that Johnson could suspend parliament for a second time in order to meet the Brexit deadline.<\/p>\n<p>The so-called \u201cnuclear option\u201d is reported to have been discussed by the PM\u2019s closest advisers, led by top aide Dominic Cummings, in a meeting on Friday night, September 13.<\/p>\n<p>But a Downing Street source has reportedly told the Mail on Sunday that Cummings was \u201cjoking\u201d about proroguing parliament for a second time.<\/p>\n<p>A second prorogation, which would see parliament suspended from October 14 to November 01, will at the very least escalate Britain\u2019s political and constitutional crisis and instigate concerted attempts at ousting Johnson as PM.<\/p>\n<p>Will Johnson risk his premiership by doggedly sticking to his declared objective of exiting the EU, with or without a deal, on 31 October?<\/p>\n<p>In this unprecedentedly volatile period in British politics, nothing can be taken for granted.<\/p>\n<p>But what is clear is that we are heading for a showdown between the executive and the legislature and \u201cBoris\u201d may be tempted to become a \u201cmartyr\u201d \u2013 as advised by Tory grandee Iain Duncan Smith \u2013 at the altar of Brexit.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>By Rupert Cansell, Investigative Journalist<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With the clock ticking to Brexit day on 31 October, Britain\u2019s embattled Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, is sticking to his guns on his stated policy of honouring the deadline on exiting the European Union (EU).
