Allamah Sayyid Ja\u2019far Murtadha al-\u2018Amili a religious scholar, an expert in the history of \u200eIslam and Shi\u2019ism, a Shi\u2019ah biographer, and a scholar of the Islamic seminary of Qom and \u200eNajaf passed away at the age 75 in the capital Beirut.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n
RNA \u2013 al-Sayyid Ja\u2019far Murtadha al-\u2018Amili was born on Safar 25, 1364 (February 9, 1945) in the \u200evillage \u2018Ayt al-Jabal 110 kilometres away from Beirut south of Lebanon. His paternal lineage \u200egoes back to al-Husayn Dhul-Dam\u2019ah, the son of Zayd the son of Imam al-Sajjad (a).\u200e<\/p>\n

His Education<\/strong><\/p>\n

He began his informal education with his father, who was a teacher. In 1382\/1962, he \u200emigrated to Najaf in order to study religious disciplines. He resided in the Seminary School of \u200eAyatollah Boroujerdi and seminary of Najaf. In 1388\/1968, he moved to Qom. In the \u200eseminary of Qom, he first studied the rest of his intermediate courses with Ayatollah \u200eMirmohammadi. He then attended the lectures of scholars such as Sayyid Musa Shobayri-\u200eZanjani, Fani, Murtadha Haeri-Yazdi and Mirza Hashem Amoli. In the meanwhile, he studied \u200ehistorical and theological issues of Shi\u2019ism.\u200e<\/p>\n

His Scholarly and Social Activities<\/strong><\/p>\n

Qom:<\/strong> Remarkable activities of Ja\u2019far Murtadha during his stay in Qom was his research about \u200ethe history and beliefs of the Shi\u2019ah, the establishment of \u201cMuntada\u201d or the \u201cSeminary of \u200eJabal \u2018Amil\u201d and teaching master students at Tarbiat Modarres Univeristy in Qom. During his \u200eyears of teaching, he was a research adviser of Lebanese students and facilitated their \u200eeducation in Qom. During twenty five years of stay in Qom, Murtadha sponsored and \u200eeducated Lebanese students, supported the ideological foundations of the Islamic \u200eRevolution, and wrote about the foundations of government by appealing to the practice of \u200eAhl al-Bayt (a).\u200e<\/p>\n

Lebanon:<\/strong> Late in 1993 he returned to his homeland, Lebanon, after twenty five years of stay \u200ein Qom. He continued his research and teaching in southern Lebanon\u2014which was occupied \u200eby Israeli regime at the time. In addition to his research in history and the foundation of a \u200eresearch center in Beirut, he held different assemblies for Shi\u2019ah youths in Lebanon, thus \u200etraining a generation of religious activists among Lebanese Shi\u2019ahs. One of his main \u200eeducational activities was the foundation of a Shi\u2019ah seminary in Beirut in 1998. During years \u200eof his stay in Lebanon, he defended imamate and wilayah and constantly tried to reply to \u200eobjections to Shi\u2019ah principles.\u200e<\/p>\n

His Prophetic Biography and Book\u2019s Writing Style<\/strong><\/p>\n

al-Sayyid Ja\u2019far Murtadha is a Shi\u2019ah historian whose expertise is the early Islamic period. He \u200ehas revived Islamic history within Shi\u2019ah seminaries. His historical works is characterized as \u200efollows:\u200e<\/p>\n

Ijtihadi approach to the study of history,\u200e
\nDrawing upon historical facts to defend Shi\u2019ah theological principles and criticize Sunni \u200etheological foundations,\u200e
\nWide-ranging searches,\u200e
\nPrecise assessments,\u200e
\nIntelligently tracing historical events to their origins,\u200e
\nExplicit specifications of fabrications and distortions,\u200e
\nDisclosing people who have provided dishonest accounts of history,\u200e
\nProfound knowledge of historical sources,\u200e
\nFluent writing and a peculiar organization of contents.\u200e
\nHis work is not edited by content editors\u2014all his work thus represents his own style of \u200ewriting.\u200e<\/p>\n

His Works<\/strong><\/p>\n

al-Sayyid Murtadha has written some books about the history of Islam and Shi\u2019ah beliefs, \u200eincluding:\u200e<\/p>\n

al-Sahih min Sirat al-Nabi al-A\u2019dham<\/strong>:\u200e<\/p>\n

This book that is al-Sayyid Ja\u2019far Murtadha\u2019s most important work, is about history of Islam \u200eand the Prophet\u2019s (s) tradition. Regarding criticism of hadiths narrated the Prophet\u2019s tradition, \u200ethis book is outstanding. The author has tried to purify the written works of the Prophet\u2019s (s) \u200etradition from unauthentic hadiths, doing his utmost to author a history based on reliable \u200ehadiths after being critical of former hadith references. Taking a special and Shi\u2019ah look at \u200ethe Prophet\u2019s (s) tradition and his history into consideration, Ja\u2019far Murtadha utilized \u200enumerous references of both Shi\u2019ah and Sunni (1683 books) to restore the narrated \u200eProphet\u2019s (s) tradition. \u200e<\/p>\n

At first, this work was released gradually and one by one up to eleven volumes and currently \u200eit\u2019s been reached to thirty five volumes altogether. The early volumes were published first by \u200eIslamic Publications Office and republished repeatedly in upcoming years. Furthermore, this \u200ebook had the chance to win Iran\u2019s book of the year awards.\u200e<\/p>\n

Ma\u2019sat al-Zahra\u2019 (a)<\/strong>\u200e:<\/p>\n

This book has been authored about incidents of the late life of Lady Fatimah (a). The writer \u200eattempted to quell the misgivings raised about Lady Fatimah\u2019s (a) life and martyrdom. \u200eAccording to the Persian translation of the book, titled as \u201cRanjha-ye Hazrat Zahra<\/em>\u201d (Lady \u200eZahra\u2019s (a) Pains), the book aimed primarily to relieve doubts of al-Sayyid Muhammad-\u200eHusayn Fadhlullah\u200e.\u200e<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
