Iraq\u2019s top Shia cleric grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani in a message offered condolences to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei over the martyrdom of IRGC Quds Force Commander General Qassem Soleimani.<\/div>\n

\u201c(I received) with great sorrow and grief the news of the martyrdom of the great general Hajj Qassem Soleimani,\u201d Ayatollah Sistani wrote in the message on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The exceptional role of that martyr in the years of battle against Daesh in Iraq and the many troubles he went through will not be forgotten, he added.<\/p>\n

Ayatollah Sistani went on to extend condolences to the Leader, family of Martyr Soleimani, and the Iranian nation, especially the people of Kerman, Martyr Soleimani\u2019s hometown.<\/p>\n

General Soleimani, deputy head of Iraq\u2019s Hashd al-Shaabi Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of Friday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
