{"id":18373,"date":"2020-01-21T15:19:46","date_gmt":"2020-01-21T15:19:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/?p=18373"},"modified":"2020-01-21T15:19:46","modified_gmt":"2020-01-21T15:19:46","slug":"iran-to-lodge-complaint-with-cas-over-afc-ruling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/iran-to-lodge-complaint-with-cas-over-afc-ruling\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran to Lodge Complaint with CAS over AFC Ruling"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"ntDesc\">TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran will file a complaint with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against a ruling of the Asian Football Confederation to ban the country&#8217;s football clubs from hosting the upcoming championship league matches.<\/div>\n<div class=\"ntText\">\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">&#8220;We will prepare the bill (of complaint) within the next two days. The clubs will also do this legal task alongside the football federation,&#8221; Mehdi Alinejad, a senior official at the sports ministry, said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">&#8220;We will file a complaint with the CAS,&#8221; he said, adding that several lobbies have been formed and diplomatic efforts are underway to change the AFC ruling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">The Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI) said on Friday that the AFC had sent a letter announcing all international matches involving Iranian teams would have to be held in a third country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">The FFIRI said it held a meeting on the matter shortly after receiving the letter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">The FFIRI also informed earlier that in the upcoming days, it would announce its eventual stance on the AFC decision which would deprive Iran of a main advantage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Spokesman for the FFIRI Amirmahdi Alavi said that the AFC should avoid \u201cfalse\u201d notions regarding Iran.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">\u201cIran is fully ready to host various teams as it has repeatedly proven during the past several years,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">One day before the FFIRI received the letter, Waleed al-Faraj, which hosts a popular soccer program on the Arabic-language SBC channel from Saudi Arabia, said that \u201cinformed sources\u201d had notified him of the ruling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">He said the decision had been taken due to Iran&#8217;s \u201csecurity situation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">The host said Iran\u2019s rivals could host competitions with Iran in their own countries, despite the new ruling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Al-Faraj\u2019s revelations were picked up by Iranian media, which pointed at Saudi Arabia\u2019s long interest and past attempts in lobbying against international competitions held in Iran.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">The AFC is currently led by Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, a member of the House of Khalifa, the royal family of Bahrain, which has very close ties with Riyadh.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">The controversial decision comes a few months after the International Judo Federation (IJF) banned Iran from taking part in international competitions for its athletes\u2019 refusal to compete with Israeli opponents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">The decision was greatly welcomed by Israeli officials who enjoy good ties with IJF&#8217;s chief Marius Vizer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Observers noted at the time that Israeli-backed lobbies might be seeking to ban Iran from competing in other international sports &#8211; such as chess competitions &#8211; due to the refusal of Iranian athletes to compete with Israeli rivals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">The Sports Ministry has given the required security guarantees to the Asian Football Confederation, highlighted Alavi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">He called on the AFC to stand against any inaccurate remarks and claims about Iran\u2019s ability to host matches.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Earlier, Al-Anba newspaper claimed that the matches between Esteghlal and Kuwait SC, which is due to be held on January 21, has been postponed due to Kuwaiti officials&#8217; concerns over the security situation in Iran which they have discussed with the AFC officials. The daily also claimed that Doha has been chosen as a neutral venue for holding the match at the 2020 AFC Champions League Preliminary Stage Two.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">All the four Iranian clubs present at the tournament have stressed their defiance of the AFC astonishing ruling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Esteghlal Football Club \u2013 which is usually one of Iran\u2019s main contenders in international competitions \u2013 has officially rejected the latest decision of the AFC to ban its country from hosting international soccer matches, cautioning that the move is politicizing sport.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Esteghlal has issued a statement saying it will refuse to compete in any competition in a third country, underlining that the football club rejects the AFC decision and believes it is for \u201cpolitical\u201d reasons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Mahdi Mohammad Nabi, member of the board of directors of the high-ranking Persepolis Football Club, also said that the AFC ruling was based on groundless claims.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">\u201cThis decision was taken without justifiable evidence and in disregard for international and national laws of member states,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Nabi added that the ruling defied article four of the FIFA Statute and article 13 of the AFC Statute which rule out discrimination against member-states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran will file a complaint with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against a ruling of the Asian Football Confederation to ban the country&#8217;s football clubs from hosting the upcoming championship league matches. &#8220;We will prepare the bill (of complaint) within the next two days.
