(Photo by AFP)<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"news-body-container\">\n<div>\n<p><strong>China has reported an increase in its new confirmed cases of coronavirus infection, reversing four consecutive days of decreases, and more countries are reporting their first infections.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chinese health officials on Wednesday reported 24 new cases of COVID-19 infection and 22 deaths in mainland China over the previous 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s National Health Commission said that of the new infections, 10 were imported cases, bringing the overall cases from abroad to 79.<\/p>\n<p>Those figures bring China\u2019s totals to 80,778 infections and 3,158 deaths since the outbreak emerged in Wuhan, the provincial capital of Hubei, in December last year.<\/p>\n<p>Officials reported just 13 new infections in Wuhan \u2014 a city of 11 million people \u2014 on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Wuhan and several other cities had been under lockdown to prevent the spread of the virus. Amid the decreases in tallies over the past days, a few cities in Hubei started to loosen restrictions on the movement of people and goods. But, at least one reversed that decision as new increases emerged on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.100.117\/\/photo\/20200311\/6828b382-c903-4cce-b2ce-2cc60a5ee157.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"312\" \/><figcaption>This aerial photo, taken on March 10, 2020, shows deserted streets in Wuhan, China. (By AFP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The outbreak of the new coronavirus continues to grow in other countries, and some nations have reported their fist cases.<\/p>\n<p>According to the latest figures from\u00a0John Hopkins University, 98 out of the 195 countries in the world have so far reported cases of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>More than 4,200 people have died of COVID-19 across the world, and more than 113,000 people have also been infected, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). About 64,000 people have also recovered from the illness, globally.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Turkey reports first case<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Turkey announced its first case of the new coronavirus infection on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The patient is a male who had returned from Europe, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said, without providing further personal information, citing the patient\u2019s right to privacy.<\/p>\n<p>Koca said the patient was isolated and his family members and other people who had come into contact with him had been quarantined.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.100.117\/\/photo\/20200311\/91b3380f-9b33-4b2b-a107-19bb65e74ea5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"309\" \/><figcaption>Workers wearing protective gear disinfect a train at the Seoul Metro Gunja Train Depot, in Seoul, South Korea, on March 11, 2020. (Photo by AFP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Bolivia detects first cases<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The coronvirus has also reached South America, with Bolivia reporting its first two cases on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Health Minister Anibal Cruz said the patients were two women over 60 years of age who arrived in the country from Italy initially without symptoms of the disease.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Panama registers first death<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Panama\u2019s Health Ministry confirmed the country\u2019s first death from the coronavirus, along with seven new cases of infection in the Central American nation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>South Korea reports jump in new cases<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>South Korea, the worst-hit country after China, reported a jump in new cases on Wednesday, after health officials detected a cluster of viral infections at an insurance company in the capital, Seoul.<\/p>\n<p>The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday reported 242 new cases of coronavirus infection from the past 24 hours, bringing its total to 7,755.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Europe<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In Europe, Italy has been hit the worst by the new coronavirus, with more than 10,000 infections and 631 deaths so far.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities have imposed drastic quarantine measures to contain the spread of the\u00a0pathogen.<\/p>\n<p>Trains, planes, and vehicles leaving the country faced new restrictions on Tuesday;\u00a0and many other countries, including Spain and Portugal, suspended air traffic to and from Italy for two weeks.<\/p>\n<div data-oembed-url=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2020\/03\/09\/620516\/Italy-Giuseppe-conte-coronavirus-lockdown\">\n<div class=\"oembed\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2020\/03\/09\/620516\/Italy-Giuseppe-conte-coronavirus-lockdown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.presstv.com\/photo\/20200309\/a51d81df-4921-494d-a76d-5c4bc08ee8ea.jpg\" alt=\"Italian PM puts whole country in lockdown over COVID-19 outbreak\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2020\/03\/09\/620516\/Italy-Giuseppe-conte-coronavirus-lockdown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Italian PM puts whole country in lockdown over COVID-19 outbreak<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2020\/03\/09\/620516\/Italy-Giuseppe-conte-coronavirus-lockdown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Italian prime minister has put the entire country in a lockdown over the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, which has killed over 450 Italians so far.<\/a><\/div>\n<p>Austria, meanwhile, ordered a halt to flights and trains from Italy;\u00a0and Slovenia said it would impose controls at its border with the country.<\/p>\n<p>British Airways said on Tuesday it had canceled Italian flights. Air France and some low-cost carriers said they would scrap flights from the country\u2019s airports until early April as well.<\/p>\n<p>Air Canada also suspended flights to Italy until at least May 1.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Indonesia reports first death<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Indonesian health officials reported the first death from the coronavirus in the country on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>A 53-year-old woman, a foreign national, who had already been in critical condition when she was admitted to hospital, died on Wednesday, said Achmad Yurianto, an official with the Health Ministry.<\/p>\n<p>Yurianto did not say where the woman was from, but said her home country\u2019s embassy was aware of her death and would arrange to have her body returned.<\/p>\n<p><em>(This is a developing story and is updated as new information is obtained.)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0A medical staffer on a hoverboard sprays disinfectant at a residential area in Wuhan, in China\u2019s central Hubei Province, on March 11, 2020.
