{"id":18842,"date":"2020-05-06T09:52:52","date_gmt":"2020-05-06T09:52:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/?p=18842"},"modified":"2020-05-06T09:52:52","modified_gmt":"2020-05-06T09:52:52","slug":"irans-transparency-enabled-iaea-record-nuclear-inspections-in-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/irans-transparency-enabled-iaea-record-nuclear-inspections-in-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran&#8217;s transparency enabled IAEA record nuclear inspections in 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"news-section-container\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"news-detail-top\">\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"news-body-container\">\n<div class=\"news-attachment-container\">\n<div id=\"mediaplayer\"><\/div>\n<p>File photo provided by the Associated Press shows an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspector at the Natanz nuclear facility in central Iran.<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Outlining the level of Tehran\u2019s cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog, the Iranian ambassador to international organizations in Vienna says the Islamic Republic received the biggest part of the inspections that were carried out worldwide by the atomic organization in 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last year, the Islamic Republic received 21 percent of the entire visits that were made to various nuclear sites across the world by inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Organization (IAEA), Kazem Gharibabadi told reporters on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>He was citing the IAEA\u2019s 129-page 2019 Safeguards Implementation Report.<\/p>\n<p>The country also received more than 90 percent of the visits that were paid by the inspectors to the 62 countries which have signed the Safeguards Agreement with the agency and its Additional Protocol.<\/p>\n<p>The Safeguards Agreement ensures non-diversion of nuclear material declared by a country, while the Additional Protocol guarantees more intrusive inspections of worldwide nuclear facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Providing a lowdown, the diplomat said out of the agency\u2019s 466 inspections, 432 ones were carried out at Iran\u2019s nuclear sites.<\/p>\n<p>The agency also implemented 45 \u201cadditional inspections\u201d of the 62 countries, 33 (73 percent) of which were carried out in the Islamic Republic, he added.<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time that the Islamic Republic tops the list of the most-frequently-inspected countries, Gharibabadi pointed out, noting that the sheer frequency of the inspections reflected the \u201ccomplete transparency\u201d of Iran\u2019s nuclear activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Iran can reconsider cooperation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gharibabadi, meanwhile, cautioned that Iran could reconsider its cooperation with the IAEA given the threats that have been posed to its 2015 nuclear agreement with world powers. The agreement, which is also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), enabled \u201csurprise\u201d visits into Iran\u2019s nuclear work.<\/p>\n<div data-oembed-url=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2020\/03\/03\/620048\/Gharibabadi-Iran-IAEA-uranium-enrichment-Fordow-JCPOA\">\n<div class=\"oembed\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2020\/03\/03\/620048\/Gharibabadi-Iran-IAEA-uranium-enrichment-Fordow-JCPOA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.presstv.com\/photo\/20200303\/62a31997-d4c6-4324-89a0-ee15869c8768.jpg\" alt=\"New IAEA report confirms JCPOA-related monitoring process underway in Iran: Envoy\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2020\/03\/03\/620048\/Gharibabadi-Iran-IAEA-uranium-enrichment-Fordow-JCPOA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New IAEA report confirms JCPOA-related monitoring process underway in Iran: Envoy<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.presstv.com\/Detail\/2020\/03\/03\/620048\/Gharibabadi-Iran-IAEA-uranium-enrichment-Fordow-JCPOA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">An Iranian diplomat says the latest IAEA report shows the monitoring and verification process related a 2015 nuclear deal is going on inside Iran.<\/a><\/div>\n<p>The Iranian diplomat highlighted the US withdrawal from the deal in 2018, its recent attempt to seek a renewal of a UN arms embargo that will expire under the JCPOA in October, and the failure of the UK, France, and Germany \u2014 Washington\u2019s allies that are still party to the JCPOA \u2014 to keep up their business ties with Iran in the wake of the US departure.<\/p>\n<p>Given the unfavorable circumstances brought about by those countries, \u201ccooperation [with the IAEA] is not the only option lying before Iran,\u201d he said, warning that the Islamic Republic could also revisit its commitments under the Safeguards Agreement.<\/p>\n<p>The IAEA report was also addressed in a story by Bloomberg News that likewise pointed to the \u201crecord pace\u201d of the agency\u2019s inspections of Iranian sites last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe agency continued to verify and monitor the nuclear-related commitments of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action,\u201d it cited the report as saying.<\/p>\n<p>The agency bolstered on-the-ground inspections with \u201cmore extensive and timely relevant present and historical images\u201d captured by satellites, Bloomberg cited the document as saying.<\/p>\n<p>The American news agency said the report \u201cshows that monitors continued receiving wide access to Iranian nuclear sites,\u201d saying 269 monitors and analysts were tasked by the agency to focus on Iran\u2019s nuclear program.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>File photo provided by the Associated Press shows an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspector at the Natanz nuclear facility in central Iran.
