The Arab media outlets reported that the US has sent messages to the Iraqi resistance groups to asks them for a halt in military operations against the American military men.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Arabic-language al-Mayadeen news channel reported on Monday that the US has sent desperate messages to the Iraqi resistance groups, calling on them to stop attacks against its military personnel stationed in the Arab country.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWashington is seeking the stop of attacks against it in Iraq and it wants to distance itself from a external crises before the presidential elections,\u201d Richard Weitz, a senior fellow and director of the Center for Political-Military Analysis at Hudson Institute, told al-Mayadeen.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

He said that Washington wants to withdraw from Iraq within one or two months but it is not possible, adding that the field and political developments in Iraq have decreased the US influence in the Arab state.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Meantime, Mohannad al-Zaher, a political analyst, told al-Mayadeen that \u201cat present (US President Donald) Trump is not thinking of withdrawal but he merely wants victory in elections\u201d.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Iraqi resistance groups issued a statement last week, announcing a halt to military operations against US and foreign forces in Iraq to allow them to leave the Arab country.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

“In order to respect the good efforts made by some national and political figures to draw up a clear and specific timetable for the implementation of the decision of the Iraqi people, parliament and government on withdrawal of foreign troops from Iraq, we give these forces a conditional opportunity,” the statement said on Saturday.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The statement warned the Americans against the consequences of any “deception, procrastination or delay” in fulfilling the key demand of the Iraqi people.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

If they fail to meet the demand, “we will be compelled to move to an advanced stage of combat, taking advantage of the capabilities of the resistance … and you will pay double the price and your nose will be rubbed\u00a0in the dirt”. it said.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The groups condemned a series of criminal acts carried out by the US against Iraq, including last year’s airstrikes on the positions of the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), commonly known by the Arabic name Hashd al-Sha\u2019abi, on the border with Syria, targeting public facilities, killing civilians, and facilitating Israeli air raids against the PMU bases.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The resistance groups also censured the US for assassinating Iran’s senior anti-terrorism commander and deputy chief of Iraq’s Hashd al-Sha\u2019abi forces and their comrades.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The heavily fortified Green Zone in Baghdad, which hosts foreign diplomatic sites and government buildings, has been frequently targeted by rockets and explosives in the past few years.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Anti-American sentiments have been running high in Iraq since the US assassinated Iran\u2019s anti-terror commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, and the deputy head of Iraq\u2019s Popular Mobilization Units, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, in Baghdad on January 3.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Just days later, Iraqi lawmakers unanimously passed a bill mandating the withdrawal of all foreign troops from Iraq.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The US has refused to withdraw its troops, with US President Donald Trump balking at the idea with the threat\u00a0to seize Iraq’s\u00a0oil money held in bank accounts in the United States.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Iraqi resistance groups have pledged to take up arms against US forces if Washington fails to comply with the parliamentary order.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
