{"id":19932,"date":"2020-11-01T04:16:43","date_gmt":"2020-11-01T04:16:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/?p=19932"},"modified":"2020-11-01T04:16:43","modified_gmt":"2020-11-01T04:16:43","slug":"cyberattack-scenarios-come-under-spotlight-after-conflicting-reports-on-massive-blackout-in-israel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/cyberattack-scenarios-come-under-spotlight-after-conflicting-reports-on-massive-blackout-in-israel\/","title":{"rendered":"Cyberattack Scenarios Come under Spotlight after Conflicting Reports on Massive Blackout in Israel"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 class=\"lead p-2 mt-2\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Power outage across Israel early Friday morning left whole neighborhoods in the dark with security officials raising the possibility of a cyberattack.<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<div class=\"w-100 body py-3\">\n<h4 class=\"rtejustify\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Security sources said that three power plants in Israel crashed and one third of residents on occupied territories spent the midnight in dark, Arab 24 website reported.<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4 class=\"rtejustify\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">They also raised the possibility of a cyberattack against Israel\u2019s power grid, saying, \u201cThere has been no radial or other pressure in any of the power plants at the time of outage and therefore, a discussion of cyberattack seems likely.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4 class=\"rtejustify\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The Israeli energy ministry says it is still investigating the cause of the incident.<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4 class=\"rtejustify\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Some sections of\u00a0Highway 20 were also affected and traffic lights were shut down in the center of Israel.<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4 class=\"rtejustify\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Major cities affected included Jerusalem, Haifa, Beersheba, and Netanya.<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4 class=\"rtejustify\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) said that the outages were due to an imbalance in the system and that despite fears the cause of the outages &#8220;was definitively not a cyberattack.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4 class=\"rtejustify\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">But the IEC report was contradicted immediately as security officials told N12 that a cyberattack should not be ruled out as the possible cause of the outages.<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4 class=\"rtejustify\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The IEC&#8217;s hotline and website were inaccessible around the time of the outages and the IEC site posted an announcement saying it was down for maintenance.
