TEHRAN (IQNA) \u2013 The secretary of Iran\u2019s Guardian Council underlined the growing unity in the Muslim world, saying the unified condemnation of the insulting cartoons about the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was a sign of the Islamic unity.<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

Speaking at a meeting of the council on Wednesday, Ayatollah Ahamd Jannati congratulated the Muslim world on the occasion of the Holy Prophet\u2019s (PBUH) birth anniversary and the Islamic Unity Week.<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

He said despite attempts by enemies and some traitors in the region to foment discord in the Muslim world, the Islamic Ummah remains united.<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

The cleric added that an example of this unity is the unified reaction of the Islamic world to the insulting cartoons in France and condemnation of the French president\u2019s support for the cartoons.<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

French President Emmanuel Macron last month defended blasphemous cartoons of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), saying France would \u201cnot give up our cartoons\u201d, a move that has sparked widespread anger in the Muslim world.<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

Ayatollah Jannati also noted that the Unity Week was established by the late founder the Islamic Republic of Iran to enhance unity among Shia and Sunni Muslims.<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

The 17th day of Rabi al-Awwal, which fell on November 3 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month as the birthday of the last prophet.<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion as the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

Since the announcement, Ayatollah Jannati said, the Islamic Ummah has become more and more united day after day.<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n
