Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has sent the Biden \u201ctransition team\u201d some foreign policy advice, encouraging it to scrap the recent peace\/recognition deals between the \u201cIsraeli\u201d entity, the UAE, Bahrain and Sudan. In a long-telegram style series of tweets on US President Donald Trump\u2019s Mideast policy, the lawmaker accused the President of disguising arms agreements as \u201cpeace deals\u201d.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe recently inked so-called \u2018peace deals\u2019 between the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and \u2018Israel\u2019. The only problem? They weren\u2019t peace deals. They\u2019re arms sales to human rights abusers, designed to empower the Gulf States and increase the risk of war with Iran,\u201d Omar wrote.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTrump proposed a staggering $23 billion in arms sales to the UAE, which the administration admitted was linked to the deal,\u201d she added, pointing out that she had introduced resolutions in the House to try to stop these arms sales.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Suggesting that the diplomatic agreements have only \u201cnormalized the occupation\u201d of Palestinian territories by the \u201cIsraeli\u201d entity, Omar lamented that they\u2019ve \u201cmade real peace for \u2018Israelis\u2019 and Palestinians increasingly unlikely.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

According to the congresswoman, Joe Biden now \u201chas a tremendous opportunity to reverse\u201d Trump\u2019s foreign policy, and to position the US \u201cat an equal distance\u201d from all the Middle Eastern \u201cdictators,\u201d whether it be Saudi Arabia, or the Yemeni Saudi puppet government, or the UAE.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Omar, 38, is a member of the informal group of \u201cprogressives\u201d within the Democratic Party known as \u2018The Squad\u2019, whose other members include Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The lawmakers\u2019 policy proposals include Medicare for all, a \u201cGreen New Deal\u201d for America and major changes to US foreign policy. The Squad has been a favorite target of Republican-leaning media and politicians, who have alleged that it carries undue levels of influence within the Democratic Party and the Biden campaign.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Biden have repeatedly sought to distance themselves from the \u201cprogressive\u201d wing of the party, however, promising that \u201cnothing will fundamentally change\u201d under a Biden presidency, and that Medicare-for-all, the Green New Deal and major changes to foreign policy were off the table.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
