Alwaght<\/strong>– Iran’s Foreign Minister suggested on Sunday that the recent assassination of a senior Iranian nuclear scientist bears the clear hallmark of atrocities committed by the Israeli regime, which has already murdered a number of Iran’s scientific\u00a0elites.<\/p>\n

Tweeting in German, Zarif cited \u201cserious indications of Israel\u2019s role\u201d in the Friday assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh near the capital Tehran.<\/p>\n

\nThe Iranian scientist, who headed the Defense Ministry\u2019s Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research, was targeted in a multi-pronged attack involving at least one explosion and machinegun fire by a number of assailants in Absard city of Tehran Province\u2019s Damavand County.<\/p>\n

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, the country\u2019s nuclear agency, has\u00a0likewise suspected Israeli involvement in both the assassination and a July incident at Iran\u2019s Natanz nuclear facility. \u201cIt looks like the Zionist regime [of Israel] has a role in these issues,\u201d AEOI Spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi said on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Zarif condemned the \u201ccowardice\u201d that characterizes the assassination as \u201can expression of the desperate warmongering of its perpetrators.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nBrigadier General Hossein Dehqan, a military advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, issued similar comments earlier. The Israeli regime was seeking to \u201ccreate an all-out war\u201d in the dying political tenure of its \u201cgambling ally (US President Donald Trump)\u201d by risking escalation with the Islamic Republic, he said.<\/p>\n

No party has yet claimed responsibility for the atrocity.<\/p>\n

However, the United States and Israel have, throughout the entire lifespan of Iran\u2019s nuclear energy program, been changelessly trying to demonize it. The duo that are each other\u2019s strongest allies, have worked tirelessly to try and restrict Iran\u2019s nuclear work through international bodies or coercive and unlawful\u00a0measures.<\/p>\n

Tel Aviv has assassinated several Iranian scientists in the past.<\/p>\n

The occupying regime, which is the Middle East\u2019s sole possessor of nuclear weapons, persuaded Washington to leave a historic nuclear accord between Tehran and world powers in 2018 and restore the “toughest” sanctions that the agreement had lifted.<\/p>\n

This is while the Islamic Republic has provided unstinting cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency. The United Nations\u2019 nuclear agency has, by its own admission, subjected Iran\u2019s nuclear work to the most extensive and recurrent examinations.<\/p>\n

Iran urges world to condemn act of state terror\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Zarif said\u00a0Iran appeals to the international community, particularly the European Union, to abandon its shameful double standards and condemn this act of state terror.<\/p>\n

Despite condemning the assassination on Saturday, the EU stopped short of denouncing it as an instance of terrorism and only called it a \u201ccriminal act\u201d that countered the bloc\u2019s values.<\/p>\n

The German tweet by the Iranian top diplomat followed a series\u00a0of tweets in various languages, in which he similarly raised awareness about Tel Aviv\u2019s fingerprints\u00a0in the murder and urged international denunciation and action.<\/p>\n

\u201cTerror attack on our scientist was indubitably designed & planned by a terrorist regime & executed by criminal accomplices,\u201d he wrote in English. \u201cShameful that some refuse to stand against terrorism and hide behind calls for restraint,\u201d Zarif added in an apparent jibe at the EU, whose repetitive-sounding statement similarly urged all concerned parties to refrain from escalation.<\/p>\n

In a message\u00a0in\u00a0Russian, Zarif also called the assassination \u201ca flagrant violation of international law\u201d against a country, which itself has \u201cso far been at the forefront of the fight against terrorism in order to establish peace and stability in the region and the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Chinese-language tweet by the foreign minister also called on the international community to build a consensus to counter tension and adventurism in the region.<\/p>\n

Fakhrizadeh to be laid to rest Monday\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Defense Ministry announced that a commemoration ceremony and subsequent burial would be held for Fakhrizadeh\u00a0on Monday.<\/p>\n

The ceremony, it noted, would be attended by the victim\u2019s survivors and the military’s top brass.<\/p>\n

Fakhrizadeh\u2019s remains were\u00a0taken\u00a0to the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Masumeh in the central city of Qom for prayers\u00a0prior to the funeral procession on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

The scientist\u2019s body was flown to the holy city of Mashhad on Saturday, when it was taken inside the Holy Shrine of the Eighth Shia Imam, Imam Reza (PBUH) as part of a religious ceremony.<\/p>\n
