\u00a0Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ Ground Force Brigadier General Mohamad Pakpour said terrorist groups are using Northern Iraq as a platform to stage cross-border attacks on Iran, and vowed the IRGC’s rigid and harsh response to the terrorist moves.<\/p>\n
General Pakpour paid a visit to\u00a0the border units and checkpoints of this region following some new movements by the terrorist groups along the Northwestern border areas of the country.<\/p>\n
“For years, terrorist and counter-revolutionary groups affiliated with the global arrogance and foreign intelligence services have been using the geography of northern Iraq to disrupt security and tranquility in the border areas of the Islamic Republic of Iran and harass the people living in these areas. Iraq and the officials of the northern region of this country have been given the necessary warnings,” General Pakpour said.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Region should not allow terrorists to roam and set up headquarters in this land to threaten and create insecurity against Iraq.<\/p>\n
“We consider any negligence in this regard to be contrary to good neighborliness and good relations between the two countries,” General Pakpour said.<\/p>\n
“Given the situation in the region and the possibility of a decisive and\u00a0shocking response from the Islamic Republic of Iran to terrorist groups affiliated with the enemies of the Islamic Revolution that are hiding in northern Iraq, we ask the residents of these areas to stay away from the terrorist bases so that they are not harmed,” he added.<\/p>\n
In a relevant development on Wednesday, the IRGC forces identified and dismantled a terrorist team in the Western province of Kurdistan.<\/p>\n
A statement by the IRGC’s\u00a0Beit ol-Moqaddas base\u00a0in Kurdistan province said that an anti-revolutionary team was disbanded in clashes with the IRGC forces in Sarvabad region of Kurdistan province.<\/p>\n
A number of anti-revolutionary terrorists were killed and wounded and a considerable amount of equipment and ammunition were seized by the IRGC forces during the operation, it added.<\/p>\n
The terrorist team had entered Iran from\u00a0the borders of Iraqi Kurdistan region with the intention of conducting acts of sabotage, the IRGC’s statement said.<\/p>\n
In a relevant development in July, the IRGC ground forces discovered and seized a large shipment of pistols from terrorists in Southeastern Iran.<\/p>\n
The public relations office of\u00a0the IRGC Ground Force\u2019s Quds Base announced in a statement that its forces have discovered and seized a shipment of weapons in the Southeastern region of Saravan in Sistan and Balouchestan province.<\/p>\n
It added that 34 handguns with relevant ammunition were seized by the Quds headquarters forces\u00a0in Saravan border region.<\/p>\n
The statement also said that the terrorist groups intended to use these weapons to destabilize the region, but thanks to the vigilance of the IRGC forces, they failed to carry out terrorist and sabotage acts.<\/p>\n
Also in July, the Iranian security forces had also dismantled a terrorist group affiliated to the Israeli spy agency, Mossad, and captured its members.<\/p>\n
\u201cA network of agents of the Zionist regime (Mossad) has been dismantled and captured along with a large shipment of weapons and ammunition after arriving at the western border posts of the country,\u201d the director-general of the Intelligence Ministry for Counter-Espionage Operation said.<\/p>\n
Mossad operatives intended to use the equipment during riots in cities and towns and for assassination operations, he said, adding that during the presidential elections, the Zionist regime had also intended to carry out acts of sabotage in different parts of the country on several occasions, but it failed and the \u201cterrorist Mossad\u201d was given a heavy blow in the region.<\/p>\n
