\nHadith One
\nThe Lineage of Imam al-Mahdi (peace be upon him)
\nImam al-Mahdi is al-Hujjah ibn al-Hasan ibn \u2018Ali ibn Muhammad ibn \u2018Ali ibn Musa ibn Ja\u2018far ibn Muhammad ibn \u2018Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn \u2018Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon them all). Imam \u2018Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha (peace be upon him) said:
\n\u201cThe righteous successor from the progeny of Abu Muhammad al-Hasan ibn \u2018Ali is the Master of the Age, and he is al-Mahdi (peace be upon him).\u201d

\nImam al-Mahdi\u2019s Birth Was Concealed
\nNarrated by Ayyub ibn Nuh, who said: I said to Abu al-Hasan al-Ridha (peace be upon him):
\n\u201cI hope that you are the one entrusted with this matter, and that Allah will bring it to you without the sword, for allegiance has been pledged to you and coins have been struck in your name.\u201d
\nHe replied: \u201cThere is none among us to whom letters are addressed, fingers pointed, questions asked, and wealth delivered, except that he is either assassinated or dies in his bed\u2014until Allah brings forth for this matter a young man from among us whose birth and upbringing are concealed, though his lineage is not concealed.\u201d

\nHadith Three
\nProhibition of Explicitly Naming Him (peace be upon him)
\nNarrated by al-Rayy\u0101n ibn al-Salt, who said: I heard al-Ridha (peace be upon him) say:
\n\u201cThe Rising One (al-Q\u0101\u2019im), al-Mahdi ibn al-Hasan\u2014his body will not be seen, and no one shall name him by his name after his occultation until he appears, declares his name, and all creation hears it.\u201d
\nWe said to him: \u2018Our master, what if we say: the Master of the Occultation, the Master of the Age, and al-Mahdi?\u2019 He replied: \u2018All of that is permissible without restriction. I only forbade you from explicitly stating his name so that his name remains hidden from our enemies and they do not recognize him.\u2019
\n[3]\nAnd also from him, he said: I heard Abu al-Hasan al-Ridha (peace be upon him) being asked about the Rising One, and he said:
\n\u201cHis body will not be seen, and his name will not be mentioned.\u201d
\n[4]\nI say: This narration is one of the reports that prohibit explicitly stating his name. The scholar al-Majlisi mentioned thirteen hadiths from nine of the Infallibles concerning the prohibition of naming Imam al-Mahdi with his noble name.
