In the Footsteps of Al-Husayn (peace be upon him)
\nDr. Ahmad Rasm Al-Nafis
\nIntroduction: The Vision of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family)
\nCorrupt rulers ascending his pulpit
\n1 \u2013 Warning against the lords of evil
\nIbn Jarir narrated from Sahl ibn Sa\u2018d who said:
\n\u201cThe Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) saw Banu so-and-so leaping upon his pulpit like monkeys, and that grieved him. He was never again seen smiling openly until he passed away. Then Allah revealed: \u2018And We did not make the vision which We showed you except as a trial for the people\u2019 (Al-Isra\u2019 17:60).\u201d (1)
\nIn Al-Durr al-Manthur (2), Ibn Abi Hatim narrated from Ibn \u2018Imran that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
\n\u201cI saw the sons of Al-Hakam ibn Abi al-\u2018As upon the pulpits as if they were monkeys.\u201d And Allah revealed concerning that: \u2018And We did not make the vision which We showed you except as a trial for the people and the accursed tree in the Qur\u2019an\u2019 (Al-Isra\u2019 17:60), meaning Al-Hakam and his offspring.\u201d
\nIt also reports that Ibn Abi Hatim narrated from Ya\u2018la ibn Murrah who said:
\n\u201cThe Messenger of Allah said: \u2018I saw Banu Umayyah upon the pulpits of the earth, and they will rule over the people, and they will find them\u2026\u2019\u201d

\n\u201c\u2026lords of evil.\u201d The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was deeply concerned by this, so Allah revealed:
\n\u2018And We did not make the vision which We showed you except as a trial for the people\u2019 (Al-Isra\u2019 17:60). (1)
\nIt also reports that Ibn Abi Hatim, Ibn Mardawayh, Al-Bayhaqi (in Al-Dal\u0101\u2019il), and Ibn \u2018Asakir narrated from Sa\u2018id ibn al-Musayyib who said:
\n\u201cThe Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) saw Banu Umayyah upon the pulpits, and that distressed him. So Allah revealed to him: \u2018It is only a worldly dominion that they are given,\u2019 and thus his eyes were comforted. This is His saying: \u2018And We did not make the vision which We showed you except as a trial for the people.\u2019\u201d
\nThe complete noble verse is:
\n\u2018And [remember] when We said to you, \u201cIndeed, your Lord has encompassed the people.\u201d And We did not make the vision which We showed you except as a trial for the people, and [likewise] the accursed tree in the Qur\u2019an. And We threaten them, but it increases them not except in great transgression.\u2019 (Al-Isra\u2019 17:60) (2)

\n2 \u2013 The Call to Support His Grandson Al-Husayn
\nAl-Hanafi Al-Qand\u016bzi narrated in Yanabi\u2018 al-Mawaddah, in Al-Mishkat, from Umm al-Fadl bint al-Harith, the wife of Al-\u2018Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both):
\n\u201cShe entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and said: \u2018O Messenger of Allah, I saw a disturbing dream last night.\u2019 He said: \u2018What was it?\u2019 She said: \u2018I saw as if a piece of your blessed body was cut off and placed in my lap.\u2019
\nHe replied: \u2018You have seen something good. Fatimah, if Allah wills, will give birth to a boy who will be placed in your lap.\u2019
\nShe said: \u2018So Fatimah gave birth to Al-Husayn, and he was placed in my lap, and I nursed him with the milk of Qutham. One day I entered upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and placed him in his lap. Then I turned slightly, and suddenly his eyes\u2026\u2019\u201d
