Bearing Responsibility for the Truth**

Those who are enslaved by desires and passions cannot bear the responsibility of the truth. Only the pious know the value of the truth, the honor of adhering to it, and the responsibility of upholding it in society.

Those who shape the history of their society are the ones who assume responsibility for it in life. The makers of humanity’s glorious history are those who hold fast to the truth and struggle for its sake. The logic of truth is the greatest weapon against those who monopolize power and against unjust rulers.

Yet bearing the responsibility of truth is never easy. It brings poverty, hardship, suffering, and sometimes even death. The great Abu Dharr said:
“The truth has not left me with a single friend.”

Now—if we wish to rebuild the history of our nation for a bright future and a happy life,
if we wish to become a true nation on our own—then we must follow the advice of the Noble Messenger to Abu Dharr:

“Do not fear the blame of any blamer in the cause of Allah.”

And:
“Speak the truth even if it is bitter.”

Truth is not merely a slogan, an argument, or an isolated position. It is the measure of a sincere believer in life.

Often we find ourselves confused about the correct stance toward others. For example:
What should we do if an oppressor offers us money to win us over to his side? Should we accept it or reject it?

What should we do if those who monopolize power try to draw us into their circle? Do we accept the first step or refuse it? And how do we refuse? How do we declare our anger toward falsehood?

And if we take such a stand, whom do we hope in? Upon whom do we rely to support the truth when not even a single person in society defends it?

Do you want to know what you should do? Listen to the advice of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) to Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him):

“O Abu Dharr, you became angry for the sake of Allah, so place your hope in the One for whom you became angry.”

Truth is not known by men; rather, men are known by the truth.

The matter may seem easy at first, but it is harder than moving mountains. It is the greatest struggle—one that none can endure except the one who has been truthful with the truth throughout his life and who has rejected falsehood throughout his entire existence.

**Lessons from the Life of Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) – Sayyid Muhammad Baqir** **04 – C.
