He is compassionate toward His servants, merciful, forgiving, loving, generous, wise, and all\u2011knowing. All these qualities are encompassed in the fact that He is the Most Merciful of the merciful. Moreover, none can overcome His command and none can overpower His will.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>As for people, when they are entrusted with a matter and one feels secure with them regarding something, they remain captives of their desires and the playthings of their whims. Sometimes their sense of honor, loyalty, and mercy may lead them to preserve what has been entrusted to them and not betray it; yet at other times they may betray it and fail to preserve it. Furthermore, they possess no independent power, nor are they self\u2011sufficient in strength or will.\u201d\u2077<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tawakkul and Natural Causes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Does reliance on God mean abandoning the natural causes in life? Does it mean that a person should avoid dealing with people and withdraw into a corner of his house, isolated from the movement and activity of life?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Certainly not. Reliance on God does not mean abandoning causes. A person must proceed according to the causes that God has established. However, he should also feel within himself that he is weak and has no independent control over the management of his affairs, and that ordinary causes by themselves are not capable of bringing him to the goals he seeks. Rather, he must turn in his affairs to a trustee who can set his condition right and manage his affairs in the best manner.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>That trustee is God, the Exalted\u2014the One who knows every detail of the universe, who is fully aware of His servants, the Cause of all causes, the Turner of hearts, the Dominant One whom nothing can overpower, the Victor whom nothing can defeat.
