## Tawakkul in the Qur\u2019an: Examples<\/strong><\/p>\n

Many verses in the Qur\u2019an speak about the quality of reliance on God. Here are some examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n

### A Call to Reliance<\/strong>
\n> **\u201cAnd upon Allah let the believers rely.\u201d**\u2079 <\/strong>
\n> **\u201c\u2026And upon Allah let those who would rely indeed rely.\u201d**\u00b9\u2070<\/strong><\/p>\n

### The Prophets and the Righteous and Their Reliance<\/strong>
\n> **\u201cThey said: Upon Allah we have relied\u2026\u201d**\u00b9\u00b9 <\/strong>
\n> **\u201cOur Lord, upon You we have relied, to You we turn in repentance, and to You is the final return.\u201d**\u00b9\u00b2 <\/strong>
\n> **\u201cAnd why should we not rely upon Allah while He has guided us to our ways?\u201d**\u00b9\u00b3<\/strong><\/p>\n

### Allah Is Sufficient for the One Who Relies on Him<\/strong>
\n> **\u201cAnd whoever relies upon Allah \u2013 then He is sufficient for him.\u201d**\u00b9\u2074 <\/strong>
\n> **\u201cAnd sufficient is Allah as Trustee.\u201d**\u00b9\u2075<\/strong><\/p>\n

### Reliance Does Not Contradict Human Determination<\/strong>
\n> **\u201cSo when you have resolved, then rely upon Allah.\u201d**\u00b9\u2076<\/strong><\/p>\n

### Allah Loves Those Who Rely on Him<\/strong>
\n> **\u201c\u2026Indeed, Allah loves those who rely [upon Him].\u201d**\u00b9\u2077<\/strong><\/p>\n

## Tawakkul in the Hadith<\/strong><\/p>\n

### The Meaning of Tawakkul<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is narrated:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cGabriel (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: \u2018O Messenger of Allah, Allah, Blessed and Exalted, has sent me to you with a gift that He has not given to anyone before you.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Messenger of Allah said: \u2018What is it?\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said: \u2018Patience\u2014and better than it.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said: \u2018And what is better than it?\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said: \u2018Contentment\u2014and better than it.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said: \u2018And what is better than it?\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said: \u2018Asceticism\u2014and better than it.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said: \u2018And what is better than it?\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said: \u2018Sincerity\u2014and better than it.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said: \u2018And what is better than it?\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said: \u2018Certainty\u2014and better than it.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said: \u2018And what is that?\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said: \u2018The highest degree of that is reliance upon Allah, Mighty and Exalted.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

I said: \u2018And what is reliance upon Allah, Mighty and Exalted?\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said: \u2018It is knowing that the created being neither harms nor benefits, neither gives nor withholds, and abandoning hope in creation. When the servant becomes like this, he does not act for anyone other than Allah, does not hope in nor fear anyone but Allah, and does not obey anyone except Allah. This is tawakkul.\u2019\u201d\u00b9\u2078<\/strong><\/p>\n

From Imam \u2018Ali (peace be upon him): <\/strong>
\n> **\u201cTawakkul is freeing oneself from [reliance on one\u2019s own] power and strength.\u201d**\u00b9\u2079<\/strong><\/p>\n

Imam al\u2011Sadiq (peace be upon him) was asked about the limit of tawakkul, and he said: <\/strong>
\n> **\u201cThat you fear nothing alongside Allah.\u201d**\u00b2\u2070<\/strong><\/p>\n

### What Leads to Tawakkul<\/strong><\/p>\n

Imam \u2018Ali (peace be upon him) said: <\/strong>
\n> **\u201cTawakkul arises from the strength of certainty.\u201d**\u00b2\u00b9<\/strong><\/p>\n

He also said: <\/strong>
\n> **\u201cGood reliance is a sign of true faith.\u201d**\u00b2\u00b2<\/strong><\/p>\n

He also said: <\/strong>
