### **Third Type (Words beginning with T\u0101\u2019)**<\/strong><\/p>\n

**(Tak\u0101)** <\/strong>
\n*Mutka\u2019* means a cushion on which one reclines. It is also said to mean a seat on which one leans, and it is also said to mean food. It has also been read as *mutkan*. <\/strong>
\n*\u201cReclining (muttaqi\u2019\u012bn)\u201d* (1) means sitting like kings upon couches whose linings are of brocade.<\/strong><\/p>\n

**(Tal\u0101)** <\/strong>
\n*\u201cAnd they followed what the devils recited\u201d* (2) meaning they followed the books of the sorcerers which the devils from among the jinn used to read or follow. <\/strong>
\n*\u201cDuring the reign of Solomon\u201d* (3) meaning during his rule. It is said that the devils used to eavesdrop (on the heavens), then add lies to what they heard and pass it to the soothsayers, who wrote it down and taught it to people. This became widespread during the time of Solomon, until it was said that the jinn knew the unseen and that Solomon\u2019s kingdom was established through this knowledge, and that Solomon controlled humans, jinn, and the wind through magic.<\/strong><\/p>\n

*Tatlu* means \u201cto read\u201d and also \u201cto follow.\u201d Allah says: <\/strong>
\n*\u201cAnd the moon when it follows it\u201d* (4) meaning when it follows the sun.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It has also been read: <\/strong>
\n*\u201cThere every soul will follow what it sent before\u201d* (5) meaning it will follow its deeds. It is also said that it will read the record of its good and bad deeds.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The recitation of the Qur\u2019an is called *til\u0101wah*. Allah says: <\/strong>
\n*\u201cHe recites to them His verses\u201d* (6).<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to both meanings (reading and following), the verse: <\/strong>
\n*\u201cThose who recite it with its true recitation\u201d* (7) may be interpreted as: <\/strong>
\n– They read it properly, or <\/strong>
\n– They follow it (act according to it).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The reader is called a *t\u0101l\u012b* because he follows what he reads. <\/strong>
\n*\u201cBy those who recite the reminder\u201d* (8) is said to refer to the angels, though it may also refer to others.<\/strong><\/p>\n

### **Fourth Type (Words beginning with Th\u0101\u2019)**<\/strong><\/p>\n

**(Thab\u0101)** <\/strong>
\n*\u201cThub\u0101t\u201d* (1) means separate groups or scattered companies. It is the plural of *thubah*. The expression *thabbaytu \u2018al\u0101 ful\u0101n thabiyah* means mentioning someone\u2019s virtues one by one in a scattered manner. It is also pluralized as *thub\u012bn*.<\/strong><\/p>\n

**(Thar\u0101)** <\/strong>
\n*\u201cAth-thar\u0101\u201d* (2) means moist soil visible on the surface of the earth.<\/strong><\/p>\n

**(Than\u0101)** <\/strong>
\n*\u201cTurning his side (th\u0101n\u012b \u2018i\u1e6dfih)\u201d* (3) means turning his side arrogantly. *\u2018I\u1e6df* means the side. The meaning is that he turns away in pride.<\/strong><\/p>\n

*\u201cThey fold their chests\u201d* (4) meaning they conceal what is in them. It is said that some polytheists said: when we close our doors, lower our curtains, cover ourselves with our garments, and conceal in our hearts hostility toward Muhammad, how will he know about us? Then Allah informed him of what they concealed, saying: <\/strong>
\n*\u201cIndeed, when they cover themselves with their garments, He knows what they conceal and what they reveal.\u201d* (5)<\/strong><\/p>\n

*\u201cSeven of the oft-repeated (sab\u2018an mina al-math\u0101n\u012b)\u201d* (6) refers to S\u016brat al-F\u0101ti\u1e25ah, which consists of seven verses. It is called *math\u0101n\u012b* because it is repeated in every prayer. <\/strong>
\nThe Qur\u2019an itself is also called *math\u0101n\u012b* because the stories and reports are repeated within it. <\/strong>
\nIt is also said that the seven refers to the seven long surahs, the seventh being al\u2011Anf\u0101l together with al\u2011Tawbah because they are treated as one.<\/strong><\/p>\n

*\u201cTwo, three, and four\u201d* (7) means two by two, three by three, and four by four.<\/strong><\/p>\n

**(Thaw\u0101)** <\/strong>
\n*\u201cTh\u0101wiyan\u201d* (8) means residing or staying. <\/strong>
\n*\u201cHonor his stay (mathw\u0101hu)\u201d* (9) means make his residence with us honorable and good. <\/strong>
\n*\u201cA dwelling place for them (mathw\u0101)\u201d* (10) means a place of residence.<\/strong><\/p>\n

### **Fifth Type (Words beginning with J\u012bm)**<\/strong><\/p>\n

**(Jab\u0101)** <\/strong>
\n*\u201cThen He chose him\u201d* (1) means his Lord selected him and brought him near.<\/strong><\/p>\n

*\u201cWhy did you not choose it?\u201d* (2) has been interpreted as: <\/strong>
\n– Why did you not select it for yourself? <\/strong>
\n– Why did you not accept it from your Lord? <\/strong>
\n– Or why did you not bring it from yourself?<\/strong><\/p>\n

*\u201cAnd We chose them\u201d* (3) means We selected them. Similarly: *\u201cYour Lord will choose you\u201d* (4).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The word also relates to gathering revenue or collecting water. *Jabaytuhu* means \u201cI collected it.\u201d <\/strong>
\n*\u201cYujb\u0101\u201d* (5) means \u201cit is gathered.\u201d Allah says: <\/strong>
\n*\u201cTo which are gathered the fruits of all things.\u201d* (6)<\/strong><\/p>\n

All reciters read it with the letter **y\u0101\u2019** (passive form) except N\u0101fi\u2018, who read it with **t\u0101\u2019** in the feminine form.<\/strong><\/p>\n

*Jaw\u0101b\u012b* refers to large basins (plural of *j\u0101biyah*), because water flows into them and is gathered there.<\/strong><\/p>\n

(N\u0101fi\u2018: N\u0101fi\u2018 ibn \u2018Abd al\u2011Ra\u1e25m\u0101n ibn Ab\u012b Nu\u2018aym, one of the seven canonical Qur\u2019anic reciters. Originally from Isfahan. He was known for piety and generosity and prayed in the Prophet\u2019s Mosque for sixty years. He died in 169 AH, though other dates such as 167, 157, or 150 AH are also reported.)<\/strong><\/p>\n

**(Jath\u0101)** <\/strong>
\n*\u201cJithiyy\u0101\u201d* (8) means kneeling on the knees, unable to stand because of their condition. The singular is *j\u0101thin*. This is the posture of disputants and debaters. From this comes the saying of \u2018Al\u012b (peace be upon him): \u201cI will be the first to kneel for disputation.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Similarly: <\/strong>
\n*\u201cAnd you will see every nation kneeling.\u201d* (9)<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is also said that *j\u0101thiyah* means gathered together, though the first meaning is more widely known.<\/strong><\/p>\n

**(Jadh\u0101)** <\/strong>
\n*\u201cA burning brand from the fire\u201d* (11) \u2014 pronounced with the three vowel forms \u2014 means a thick piece of wood containing fire but without a visible flame.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
