Her case is like that of the mother of Moses (peace be upon him): no sign of pregnancy appeared, and no one knew of it until the time of his birth, because Pharaoh used to slit open the bellies of pregnant women in search of Moses. This child is similar to Moses.”

Hakimah said:

I returned to Narjis, conveyed the Imam’s words to her, and asked about her condition.

She replied:

“My lady, I do not feel anything of what you describe.”

According to the narration of al-Husayn ibn Hamdan al-Khasibi in al-Hidayah, from Ghaylan al-Kalabi and Musa:

Hakimah said:

One day I visited the Imam and prayed for him as I always did. He said:

“O aunt, the child for whom you have been praying to Allah will be born tonight. It is the night of the fifteenth of Sha’ban in the year 255 AH. It is the blessed child whom we have long awaited. When I came to her that evening, she treated me in the same manner. I bent down and kissed her hand and prevented her from serving me.

She addressed me respectfully as “my lady,” and I responded in the same way. She said:

“May I be your sacrifice.”

I replied:

“Rather, I and all the worlds be your ransom.”

She was surprised by my words, so I said:

“Do not be surprised. Tonight Allah will grant you a son who will be the master of this world and the Hereafter, and the deliverance of the believers.”

She became shy. Then I looked at her again and said to my master, Abu Muhammad (peace be upon him):

“I still see no sign of pregnancy.”

He smiled and said…

After completing my prayers, I found her asleep without any change in her condition. I remained occupied in remembrance of Allah, then lay down for a while. She awoke startled, then rose to pray before returning to sleep.

Hakimah said:

I went out to observe the approach of dawn. The first light of dawn appeared like the tail of a wolf while Narjis was still asleep. Doubt entered my heart.

Abu Muhammad (peace be upon him) called to me from his room:

“Do not hasten, O aunt. The matter is now very near.”

I sat down and recited Surat al-Sajdah and Surat Ya-Sin.
