**The Second Verse**
\nThe saying of the Almighty: **”Those are the ones who have purchased error for guidance, so their trade has brought no profit, and they were not guided.”** (2)<\/h4>\n

Imam Hassan al-Askari (peace be upon him) said: Imam Musa bin Ja’far (peace be upon them both) said: (3)<\/h4>\n

“Those are the ones who have purchased error for guidance” means they sold the religion of God and exchanged it for disbelief in God. “So their trade has brought no profit”\u2014that is, they did not profit in their trade in the Hereafter, because they purchased the Fire and its various forms of punishment with the Paradise that had been prepared for them had they believed. “And they were not guided” to the Truth and the Right.<\/h4>\n

When God, the Almighty, revealed this verse, some people came to the Messenger of God (peace and blessings of God be upon him and his family) and said: “O Messenger of God, glory be to the Provider (Al-Raziq), have you not seen so-and-so? He had little capital and was of meager means. He went out with a group, serving them on the sea, and they respected his right of service. They took him to China, and they allocated a small amount of their wealth, dividing it among themselves for him, and they collected it and bought goods for him from there. The goods arrived safely, and for every one [unit of currency invested], he made a profit of ten. Today, he is one of the wealthy men of Medina.”<\/h4>\n

And another group of people in the presence of the Messenger of God (peace and blessings of God be upon him and his family) said: “O Messenger of God, have you not seen so-and-so? He was in good condition, possessing much wealth, beautiful provisions, and abundant blessings, with his affairs well-ordered. Yet, he insisted on seeking even more vast wealth, and his greed drove him to recklessness. He traveled the sea at a time of its raging, in a vessel that was not sturdy, with sailors who were not skillful, until he reached the middle of the sea. A violent storm played with his ship, driving it to the shore and tearing it apart on a dark night. His wealth vanished, and he escaped with nothing but his bare soul\u2014destitute and bereft, looking at the world with regret.”<\/h4>\n

The Messenger of God (peace and blessings of God be upon him and his family) then asked: “Shall I not inform you of someone whose condition is better than the first, and someone whose condition is worse than the second?”<\/h4>\n

They replied: “Yes, O Messenger of God.”<\/h4>\n

The Messenger of God (peace and blessings of God be upon him and his family) said: “As for the one who is in a better condition than the first: it is a man who firmly believed in the truthfulness of Muhammad, the Messenger of God, and believed in the truthfulness of honoring Ali, the brother of the Messenger of God, his vicegerent (Wali), the fruit of his heart, and the object of his pure obedience. So his Lord, His Prophet, and the successor of His Prophet showed gratitude to him, and God, the Almighty, gathered for him through that the good of this world and the Hereafter.”<\/h4>\n
