{"id":7532,"date":"2014-01-26T14:20:15","date_gmt":"2014-01-26T14:20:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/?p=7532"},"modified":"2014-03-31T01:55:56","modified_gmt":"2014-03-31T01:55:56","slug":"uk-police-to-arrest-anyone-returning-from-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/uk-police-to-arrest-anyone-returning-from-syria\/","title":{"rendered":"UK Police To Arrest Anyone Returning From Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/syria-fighting09.jpgw940h627-750x400.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7533\" alt=\"syria-fighting09.jpgw940h627-750x400\" src=\"http:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/syria-fighting09.jpgw940h627-750x400.jpg\" width=\"750\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/syria-fighting09.jpgw940h627-750x400.jpg 750w, https:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/syria-fighting09.jpgw940h627-750x400-300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/syria-fighting09.jpgw940h627-750x400-620x330.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>A senior British police official has warned that anyone travelling to Syria from the UK will be detained after returning home.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is a \u201chuge concern\u201d about those who travel to Syria to fight alongside the militants against the Syrian government, Manchester\u2019s police chief Peter Fahy said on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to Syria\u2019s nearly three-year-old conflict, Fahy said the country \u201cis an incredibly dangerous place and you will be arrested and stopped at the border if you try and come back.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe\u2019ve stopped quite a number of people because we\u2019re very, very clear about what will happen,\u201d he added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sixteen people have been detained this month in the UK after coming back from Syria on suspicion of terrorism offences, compared with 24 in the whole of 2013.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur biggest concern is people attending terrorist training camps or fighting in war zones then returning to the UK as terrorists,\u201d Fahy noted, adding, \u201cThey are potentially a threat to British interests both abroad and at home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Police officials have urged anyone thinking about going to Syria for any reason to pay attention to warnings issued by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.<\/p>\n<p>According to extracts from a study by British defense consultancy IHS Jane\u2019s published in the Daily Telegraph, some 100,000 militants are operating in Syria.<\/p>\n<p>The militants have split into some 1,000 brands since the crisis began in Syria, according to the study, which is based on intelligence estimates and interviews with militants.<\/p>\n<p>More than one hundred British nationals, along with militants from the US, Canada, France, and the Netherlands, have reportedly joined the foreign-backed groups in Syria.<\/p>\n<p>Syria has been gripped by a deadly crisis since 2011.
