{"id":9534,"date":"2014-06-20T15:17:44","date_gmt":"2014-06-20T15:17:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/?p=9534"},"modified":"2014-06-24T10:09:31","modified_gmt":"2014-06-24T10:09:31","slug":"ayatollah-misbah-understanding-the-real-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/ayatollah-misbah-understanding-the-real-life\/","title":{"rendered":"Ayatollah Misbah: Understanding the real life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ayatollah Misbah Yazdi, in his final lesson of ethics for the year, spoke about the life we live in and its relation to the hereafter.<\/p>\n<p>His eminence stated: \u201cWhen the question is raised of how it is possible to lengthen one\u2019s life, God answers by stating the lengthening of life for a person is possible by the individual striving towards making the life of this world insignificant and valueless, and, in contrast to this, the life of the hereafter \u00a0valuable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He mentioned longing for an eternal life as an innate desire. He said: \u201cMan has been created in such a way that he pursues his pleasures; therefore, it is not a weakness to wish for a long life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The highly respected scholar stated: \u201cNo one can claim that they are not in the pursuit of any type of pleasure, if such a claimant is found, know that there is something wrong with them. In the pursuit for super natural powers, the Indian ascetics go through a lot of suffering but even that is because they are after the pleasure found in the result.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Explaining the verse \u2018<i>\u2026<\/i><i><span style=\"color: black;\">each one of them wishes He could be given a life of a thousand years: But the grant of such life will not save him from (due) punishment.<\/span><\/i>\u2019 (Surah Baqarah: 96), the respected commentator of the Quran said: \u201cThe reason why desiring a long life is frowned upon in the Quran is because some people do not understand that life in this world is like a small toy, and by entertaining themselves in this world, they become oblivious to the real life.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAnswering the polytheists who desired a life of a thousand years, God stated that even if you reach such an age, you would still not be free from the divine punishment.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Quoting the verse: \u2018<i><span style=\"color: black;\">Say, &#8220;O you who are Jews, if you claim that you are allies of Allah, excluding the [other] people, then wish for death, if you should be truthful.&#8221;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"color: black;\">\u2019 (Surah Jum\u2019a: 6), his eminence said: \u201c<\/span>In this verse God addresses the Jews and states that if you speak the truth about being the lovers of God, then desire death. The Quran does not state: become a lover of death and commit suicide, rather, it says perfection is in this that you understand true life and know that: \u2018<i><span style=\"color: black;\">this worldly life is not but diversion and amusement.
