{"id":9855,"date":"2014-07-12T19:32:25","date_gmt":"2014-07-12T19:32:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/?p=9855"},"modified":"2014-07-12T19:32:25","modified_gmt":"2014-07-12T19:32:25","slug":"maliki-removes-zebari-as-tensions-with-kurds-rise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wilayah.info\/en\/maliki-removes-zebari-as-tensions-with-kurds-rise\/","title":{"rendered":"Maliki removes Zebari as tensions with Kurds rise"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"divLead2\" style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<p><strong>Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has dismissed Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari as tension continues between Baghdad and the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">On Friday, the Iraqi premier appointed Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Hussain al-Shahristani as a replacement for Zebari.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">The development came after Zebari, along with other Kurdish ministers, boycotted government meetings over the premier\u2019s remarks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">On Wednesday, Maliki said the Kurdistan region had become a safe haven for the Takfiri terrorists.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">In response, Kurdish members of the Iraqi government decided to suspend their participation in the cabinet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Also on Friday, the Kurdish Peshmerga forces captured the key oilfields of Bai Hassan and Kirkuk, a move Baghdad condemned strongly.<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; color: #5b5b5b;\"><p>Oil Ministry spokesman Assem Jihad said the semi-autonomous region\u2019s measure is &#8220;a violation to the constitution,&#8221; and poses &#8220;a threat to national unity.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">The spokesman said the Kurdish forces also expelled local workers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Baghdad says it has the sole right to export the country\u2019 crude, but the Kurds say they are entitled to market the resources of their own region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">The crisis in Iraq escalated after the ISIL terrorists took control of Mosul, in a lightning advance on June 10, which was followed by the fall of Tikrit, located 140 kilometers (87 miles) northwest of the capital Baghdad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">An estimated 1.2 million people have been displaced in Iraq so far this year, according to the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.presstv.ir\/detail\/2014\/07\/11\/370885\/maliki-sacks-zebari-amid-iraq-crisis\/\">Press TV<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has dismissed Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari as tension continues between Baghdad and the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
