The Zionist occupation entity pushed on with plans to build a new ‘Israeli’ settler neighborhood in east occupied al-Quds, a watchdog group said Sunday, warning such efforts were being stepped up before US President Donald Trump leaves office.
The Trump administration has broken with decades of bipartisan US practice by not opposing Zionist settlement activity in ‘Israeli’-annexed occupied al-Quds and West Bank.
Relatively, US President-elect Joe Biden claimed his administration will restore America’s opposition to the settlements which are considered illegal under international law.
The latest move saw the so-called ‘Israeli’ Land Authority issue construction tenders in Givat Hamatos, a currently uninhabited area of east occupied al-Quds next to the mainly Palestinian neighborhood of Beit Safafa.
In February, the Zionist regime’s right-wing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the approval of 3,000 settler units in the area.
Last week, the Zionist authority issued tenders for the construction of more than 1,200 settler units in Givat Hamatos.
