Martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Laid to Rest Beside the Shrine of Imam al-Ridha (Peace Be Upon Him)
The body of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei (may Allah be pleased with him), was laid to rest a short while ago beside the shrine of Imam al-Ridha (peace be upon him) in the Holy Razavi Shrine in the sacred city of Mashhad.
According to a report by Fars News Agency from Mashhad, the body of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, the second Leader of the Islamic Revolution, was laid to rest following solemn farewell ceremonies and large funeral processions held in Tehran, Qom, Najaf, Karbala, and Mashhad. The burial took place in the presence of his family, officials, the custodians of the Shrine of Imam al-Ridha (peace be upon him), and vast crowds of mourners, beside the blessed shrine of Imam al-Ridha (peace be upon him) in the Dar al-Dhikr portico.
The farewell and funeral ceremonies for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution were held over six days in five cities—Tehran, Qom, Najaf, Karbala, and Mashhad—making it, according to the report, the largest funeral procession in history, with an unprecedented public turnout.
Fars News Agency reported that the ceremonies lasted three days in Tehran (two days for the farewell gathering at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla and one day for the main funeral procession), and one day each in Qom, Najaf–Karbala, and Mashhad. Unprecedented crowds participated in the ceremonies, with many people attending events in more than one city.
Official sources stated that the total number of participants was estimated at between 41 and 43 million people.
Martyr Sayyid Ali Hosseini Khamenei was the target of a direct attack by the enemy on the first day of the large-scale surprise aggression launched by the United States and the Zionist entity against Iranian territory on 28 February. He was martyred in that attack.
According to the officials responsible for the farewell and funeral ceremonies, members of the martyred Leader’s family who were also martyred were buried alongside him.
