In a meeting with the Defence Ministry officials His Eminence Ayatollah Nouri Hamdani opened by saying that God Almighty has provided us with the ability and means to defend ourselves.
Focusing on what Allah has told us through the Qur’an on how to defend ourselves Ayatullah Hamdani stated that the Qur’an has advised us to understand our enemy and stressed that this was very important in the current state of affairs where the Saudis’ and Qataris, under the veil of Takfiri elements, are plundering the lives and properties of Muslims. Understanding and countering our enemies are one of our responsibilities to help protect our divine religion, he added.
Underlining the importance of defence against the enemy, he used the example of the Islamic Revolution which has been under attack, both through repressive and ideological means, since day one. Citing the reason behind the incessant attacks on the Islamic Revolution, he revealed that this was due to the fact that the enemy deemed, and indeed, does still deem, the Revolution to be a threat to their interests. He continued, ‘Before the Revolution western culture, politics and economics ruled over the countries of the world and this problem was the reason that the Islamic countries grew closer to the arrogant powers. From the time of the revolution until this very day the enemies of Islam have not rested and have tried their trickery numerous times’.
Raising the issue of American foreign policy, he pointed out that their policies were contradictory and evolved to suit their needs. While America had supported Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussain during his 8 year onslaught on the Islamic Republic, they then changed their rhetoric to suit their needs in 2003 where, under the banner of human rights, they deposed the very same man whom they had once supported. These events show that the claims of human rights by America are nothing but lies.
Referring to US Secretary of State, John Kerry’s speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, in which he threatened Iran with military action, His Eminence explained that Kerry’s speech is an example of what the Qur’anic verse, ‘Oh people of faith, do not be affectionate towards those who are disbelievers as they will not leave any opportunity to sabotage [your efforts] and they desire for you to remain backwards’, is referring to and that their animosity has become evident through their own words, when the enmity the disbelievers accommodate towards Muslims in their hearts is greater than that which they actually express.
Addressing the threat issued by John Kerry, Ayatullah Hamdani issued his own warning to America that ‘if their hands reach out towards military action then the faithful people will sever those hands’.
He ended his speech by saying that with the existence of the Supreme Leader and the revolutionary people no one can gather the courage to look towards the Islamic Republic in a negative fashion.
