Addressing the closing of the 16th international celebration of the works of Sheikh Tusi, Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani spoke about the responsibilities of our scholars in this day and age. He stated: “The work of scholars and the Hawza is a continuation of the duties of the Prophet (s) and Imam Sadiq (a).”
Explaining the vastness of the horizons of the religion of Islam, his eminence stated: “Islam is a religion that covers all dimensions in its discourses and it can be a role model for the world [in those various dimensions]…understanding the religion with all its dimensions is essential.”
Ayatollah Hamedani touched upon the different discussions in the religion of Islam to show the scope that it covers. Regarding economics in the religion he said: “The creation and distribution of wealth are the qualities of Islamic economics.”
The respected grand jurist went on to speak about the significance and role of our esteemed scholars in actively being a part of the society around them and challenging the systems which oppress it. He explained: “The scholars of religion need to be present among society to oppose invalid movements. This is because Islam is against secluding and isolating [oneself]…
…Shia scholars are the guardians of the borders of the religion of Islam. They stand to protect its sanctity and the beliefs of the people from the infiltration of Satan and his army.”
His eminence stressed upon the duty of scholars to not remain silent in a society where oppression exists. He stated: “Imam Khomeini was one who spoke out and he had in his heart the grief of all those who cried out and all the oppressed of the world.”
Emphasising the important role of Imam Khomeini in presenting Islam as multi-faceted religion to the world, Ayatollah Hamedani stated: “Imam Khomeini introduced the guardianship of the jurist, challenging the arrogant powers, understanding the cancerous Zionist regime, unity, spreading the culture of struggling and defending the oppressed as branches of the system of Wilayah.”
His eminence concluded by highlighting the responsibility of scholars in this day and age against the oppression they see around them specifically referencing Bahrain as an example. He said: “The scholars of religion should take into consideration their responsibility and position and realize they cannot remain neutral in front of the conspiracies of the arrogant powers… The arrogant powers side with the Bahraini regime and hence are a part of the killing of the Shia. They have drawn up a plan to destroy the Muslims and it is our duty to stand up against these atrocities.”
