In a meeting with a delegation of professors and researchers of different academic institutions from North America, Ayatollah Jawadi Amoli spoke about the importance of understanding the true meaning of justice and peace.
He stated: “The process of peace and justice is compounded of three elements and as long as those three elements remain undefined, the meaning of peace and the meaning of justice will also remain undefined.”
He continued: “The processes of ethics, rights, jurisprudence and law must have these three ingredients [as well]. The first is substance, the second is foundation and the third is source.”
His eminence highlighted the importance of justice as being the base around which all other principles are built.
He explained: “The most important and key principle of all the foundations is that of justice, to the extent that the rest of the foundations must be nurtured from it. The meaning of justice is also clear and that is assigning everything to its rightful place and there exists no difference of opinion between the various religions on this.”
Ayaollah Amoli introduced the idea that those who go astray do so as a result of not going back to a correct source for their decisions.
He said “Only the creator of individuals and entities has knowledge of the rightful place of everything. It is here that many nations are negligent of the third element which is source [i.e knowing a correct source for determining their foundations and substances].”
The highly respected scholar went onto explain how this applies to current affairs in the world.
He stated: “The arrogant powers and the Zionists do not believe in a source as everyday they define justice and peace however it suits them, and they explain and define [these terms] according to how it would benefit them. This is why at times, according to their desires, they place the military option on the negotiating table, and in other instances they identify groups fighting against oppression, such as Hizbullah, as terrorists.”
The Ayatollah explained how we need to move away from emotionally loaded statements and terminology, towards a more intellectual discussion for the pursuit of justice.
He reasoned: “Justice and peace, both of which are sweet and emotional terms, will not lead this world towards justice, rather, it is the use of the intellect which will lead us to peace. Until intellectuality proliferates in the world, world peace will not be achieved.”
He also said: “Until there is a lack of intellect, the threat of a third world war exists.”
Speaking to the gathering of North American academics, Ayatollah Jawadi Amoli concluded with a message of unity by emphasising the role of the divine Prophets (s) in their pursuit of justice.
“Endeavour, so that the culture of intelligence is revived; this was the mission of all the divine Prophets (s) such as Prophet Musa (a) Prophet Isa (a).”
